Benthic Two-Tubes Rebel List

By wrecknerds85, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Good evening all! I've been play-testing the following Rebel list:

U-Wing (Benthic Two-Tubes), Advanced Sensors, Pivot Wings

X-Wing (Edrio Two-Tubes), Proton Torpedoes, R3 Astromech, S-Foils

Y-Wing (Dutch Vander), Ion Cannon Turret, Proton Torpedoes, R5 Astromech

My question is this, is there anything I can to make this list more efficient and/or effective? I LOVE the focus token hand-off ability of Benthic and his bro Edrio's ability to get a free action from that token. It really turns Edrio into a beast. Dutch is Dutch in his floating fortress.

Also, I'm almost positive I'm using the U-Wing incorrectly. The way I tend to play it is he pretty much follows Edrio and Dutch around just giving out tokens and not doing much battling. He can soak up hits pretty well though.

Any help or advice is, as always, greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The first thing I see is that list looks nowhere near 200 points, so I kind of want to see if I can add a 4th ship.

The two upgrades Benthic Two-Tubes wants most are Perceptive Copilot and Leia Organa. Perceptive Copilot means that Benthic will hand off one focus token (usually to Edrio) but also keep one for himself. This is good defensively to keep him alive longer, as well as helping his solid 3 red dice. Leia allows amazing flexibility over the entire list. Taking flip moves like K-Turns, or stalling on the U-Wing without stress can be amazing. Advanced Sensors will make Benthic a lot easier to fly, however. Being able to Focus before moving means you can always dial in a bump into some ship, fly over Gas Clouds and such and not care. That's nice, but I'd much rather have the other two upgrades. If there were a 3rd crew slot, or you just didn't feel like running Leia, Jyn Erso is also wicked nice with the Two-Tubes. Benthic could take a Focus and Evade, pass the Focus and keep the Evade, to be tankier himself. Maybe Edrio isn't in a good position to get a Lock when he activates, but doesn't want to Boost or Barrel Roll. In that case, he could use Jyn to get an Evade himself. Jyn's a nice crew to combine with the Two Tubes, but again, Leia is a top priority.

Edrio is fine. I might cut the Droid if I need points, maybe also the Torpedoes, if it means I can get a 4th ship.

For Dutch, I'd cut either the Torpedoes and add Veteran Turret Gunner (so both primary and Ion attacks, if you're turret is pointing forwards), or I'd cut the Turret. One extra weapon is probably enough, particularly if the goal is adding a 4th ship.

The only real problem with the list is that, as described above, there's just too much empty space, and it ought to be filled.

Consider something like this:

  • Benthic Two-Tubes (Leia Organa, Perceptive Copilot) 57
  • Edrio Two-Tubes (S-Foils) 45
  • Dutch Vander (Ion Cannon Turret, Veteran Turret Gunner) 49
  • Braylen Stramm (-) 47 or Ten Nunb (-) 46
  • Total 197-198. The other few points can be filled anyway you'd like.

B-Wings are really potent ships for their price these days, and the B-Wing expansion will be out soon. With the way this list works, Benthic can pass one of his two focus to Edrio, who Locks. Dutch Locks, and gives Bentic a Lock. Braylen can Focus -> Barrel Roll for essentially Focus and Lock. So you'll have three ships (Benthic, Edrio, and Braylen) with both rerolls and focus. That'll hit pretty hard. Ten Nunb would also work well. Here, I'd have Dutch pass locks to him, so that he'll have an easier time spending his stress. A B-Wing which doesn't have to worry about stress is really strong.

If you're dead-set on Proton Torpedoes and a 3 ship list, I'd probably go for Luke over Dutch.

Probably something like this:

  • Benthic Two-Tubes (Leia Organa or Jyn Erso, Perceptive Copilot) 57
  • Edrio Two-Tubes (Proton Torpedoes, R3 Astromech, S-Foils) 60
  • Luke Skywalker (Instinctive Aim, Proton Torpedoes, R2-D2, S-Foils) 82
  • Total 199.

Here, Edrio's got his Torpedoes back. Luke, I feel, probably has a bit more overall power than Dutch. His unlimited force charges and R2-D2 make him also pretty tanky and hard to kill. Fly away for a bit and he can come back in with a lot of health. While Luke probably intends to take Locks to fire his Torpedoes, Instinctive Aim can be quite scary, allowing him to barrel roll or Focus-Boost for position with S-foils closed, or else just pull a red move and still fire Torps. Instinctive Aim probably isn't the greatest upgrade overall, but it's not too bad, and there isn't much else that could be afforded in this list. This would also be a list where I'd consider Jyn over Leia. Luke would love to have Evade with his recharging force.

If I really wanted to keep Proton Torpedo Dutch (he's fine), I'd still try to get a 4th ship. Price-wise, an A-Wing is probably all that realistically fits. I think Jake Farrel would be the best. He can do some really crazy things when he passes Focus around to other people.

  • Benthic Two-Tubes (Leia Organa, Perceptive Copilot) 57
  • Edrio Two-Tubes (R3 Astromech, S-Foils) 48
  • Dutch Vander (Proton Torpedoes, R2 Astromech) 55
    • Personally, I'd prefer R2 over R5 on Dutch. Dutch really wants to spend every action taking a Lock, so that a friendly ship can also get a lock. As such, I don't really want to spend actions repairing damage cards with R5. Instead, I'd rather have R2 to regain a shield on those turns where I'm not pointed at an enemy, since I could still use Dutch's Lock to help someone else's attack. That's mostly just personal preference, though. If R5 has been working for you, great. You don't have change it because I said so, but it's still nice to think about options.
  • Jake Farrell (Predator) 38
    • An A-Wing could probably easily be cut for a cheaper X-Wing, just by leaving off the droids, but I'd rather have Jake.
  • Total 198. Again, feel free to fill the points, adjust stuff a bit.
    • One option would be to cut a droid to put a missile on Jake. Dutch could easily share a lock with Jake, and Jake could fire Cluster or Concussion missiles without too much trouble.

In the off chance you’re choosing a UXY list because you only have Saw’s Renegades and a Y-Wing, here’s something to look at (assuming these cards are available to those expansions. I’m not 100% sure).

As for your list, I think you should play it with two brawlers to joust and knife fight, with one or two flankers.

Let's look at brawler options:

Dutch is probably the best ship in your squad for this role, but with a turret, his long range attack is laughable. Let's swap it out for a proton torp.

Dutch + protons - 51 points

Next, let's look at our options for a second brawler.

I think Benthic is the best choice here-with perceptive copilot and leia, he and dutch can make a power combo, each with a focus lock.he also has stop manuvers and decent tankiness. I know you might not want him getting shot right away, but if they shoot at him, dutch is waiting with a double-modded proton torp.

Benthic two tubes + perceptive copilot (perco) + leia - 57

Now, we have 92 points left to work with!

Edrio could work, but low initative is a problem, and benthic's focus will be going to ditch most of the time.

A unconventional idea could be to take Leia off of benthic, and put it on ezra's attack shuttle. He has a force, and if you link a barrel roll into an evade, his ability gives you basically focus+evade! His initative is still a problem, though, but he's cheap, with three dice and fairly low target priority (maybe more if you decide to put leia on him)

Hera is another good option for an attack shuttle flanker/leia carrier. Her high initative+arc dodgy ability lets her act as a cheap, decent flanker that's hard to pin down.

If you pick hera, you'll have jussst enough points to fit wedge with a 1 point bid.

If you go for a little jank and pick ezra, you'll be one point short of fitting wedge, but I have a 51-point x-wing build that adds a tanky, jack-of-all trades x-wing.

Jek porkins + chopper + elusive.

If you don't see the combo right away, here's how it works:

1. Do a red manuver and recharge elusive

2. Use jek's ability to remove stress

3. Use your action to regen a shield with chopper (elusive is a non-recurring charge)

This build let's you throw jek into the fray for a few rounds, then keep your guns on target while regening! Yes, you might take damage from it, but you regen one damage anyway, so it dosen't matter, and there's a 50% chance you won't take damage!

With this in mind, you can build two lists, with similar archetypes, but different playstyles!

I hear you on wanting you to have theme of the brothers flying together, but this combo is my favorite and have flown it in a few hyperspace tourney's.

Benthic Two-Tubes (Leia Organa, Perceptive Copilot) 57

Wedge (Proton Torps) 64

Leaves you with 79 points to work with, what I had done was Luke with Pro Torps however you could do a couple turreted Y-wings for beef or what ever other flavors you prefer.

The main point of the combo is the amazing action economy + firepower you get for Wedge as a int 6 pilot, your going to want to practice formation flying cuz it can be awkward but the reward is worth it.

I like them as Super Luke's wingmates.

Benthic w/ PerCop and Pivot

Edrio w/ S-Foils

Luke w/ S-Foils, SuperNat, R2 Astro

190/200

Good for casual nights, both X-Wings basically have SuperNat. Good for blocking, but doesn't put out enough damage for me...likely because I'm bad.

BItter Fig did a good job describing things here.

My take might be something like this...

Benthic Two Tubes (47)
Perceptive Copilot (8)
Leia Organa (2)
Pivot Wing (0)

Ship total: 57 Half Points: 29 Threshold: 4

"Dutch" Vander (39)
Ion Cannon Turret (4)
Ion Torpedoes (6)

Ship total: 49 Half Points: 25 Threshold: 4

Edrio Two Tubes (45)
R3 Astromech (3)
Servomotor S-Foils (0)

Ship total: 48 Half Points: 24 Threshold: 3

Ten Numb (46)
Ship total: 46 Half Points: 23 Threshold: 4

Total: 200

I prefer Ten over Braylen as Ten is less restricted by stress and with locks from Dutch he should be able to get double modded shots each turn and get rid if the stress if he has any.

To make the most of Dutches locks I kept a Torp on him, I like the ion for control at range while the Dorsal turret just help keep people in an arc in close quarters.

I think as Dutch can can feed other ships target locks you want him to be a low priority target. And I'd worry Protons might make him too high priority as would Vet turret gunner + Ion turret.
