New panic! The California Standoff Strategy is going to be the new default way for "ace" lists to win, go for a half points win in the last round of the game. 74 minutes of durdling around followed by a single round of combat to determine the game!
Current PANIC thread
Ok. But I know of lists that are both good and can nullify that strat.

I’m more panicking at the fact I am flying a meta list and didn’t even know it!
I bought a republic lot like-new to give them a try, and my first list is that republic list.... and I haven’t been watching any streams or list fortress or any of that.
I must hide in shame for having copied a netlist without even using the net.

Knock back a couple of shots, look in a mirror and flip the image you see there the bird for having thought that. Limited permutations with thousands of people theory crafting like monkeys on typewriters.

Fly what you want. Screw list fortress, and meta wing, and any scumbag who shames you for flying what you want.

Maybe there was some loss in translation because of text, but the panic was a bit in jest.
I was a little surprised to see “my” list on a stream though.
Guys I'm bringing this back because like, floor rules, going to time, germs, et cetera. Sound off on whatever you are panicking about!

I'm actually pretty happy with my GenCon list.

Why not Inferno swarm?

politics, mostly.

Sold off my Imperial stuff. And I didn't find it fun to play. If winning means I have to play something with which I'm not having fun, I'm out on even trying.

It's imperial. But I think it's fun. Echo, Duchess, and two generic Inquisitor V1s.

I've checked out of politics for now, only casually keeping track of the primaries. I care but my energy that I can devote to it is small for now.

Muh dice. FFS, I was only supposed to take 1.6ish dmg in a practice round gambit and took 5. The 0.75% likelihood! What's life on the "continuously saved by fate itself" end of the bellcurve?

I wrote a script to generate all possible list permutations, including unreleased ships and pilots (I scraped Wookipedia). So technically, all lists are mine. Except lists with jumpmasters, y'all can have those.

Like.

This but non-sarcastically
Edited by prauximnon-sarcastically prob more accurate than non-ironically?

I'm serious. Getting punished for letting a single mod r3 obstructed shot on an ace so I can get a tasy double mod r1 is not fair. Not even a game then.

Yeah, I think the game would be objectively better with damage charts, maybe a die or 2 for some variance/effect triggers (like in the Outer Rim board game) but drop the upper/lower 25th percentiles off the bell curve
Does the fact that results correlate so loosely to good decision really make the game better? I used to think Catan was a great game, but then I played "Catan but not dominated by dice" and its was 100% better
The tale is as old as time: I can't settle on a list!
Hyperspace or Extended? which faction? Do i fly what's dong well or what I think will be fun but will all but guarantee loss nine times out or ten?

Ugh. Catan. I played a six-player game once where I had settlements on two 8s and a 6, (plus a couple other numbers), and in two times round the table, I got one resource.
I did like that in some later variants, they made it a rule that if the roll isn't 7, and you still don't get any resources, that you can take one resource of your choice. That seemed a good way of making the rolls still matter, but not completely excluding someone from the game for being unlucky.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is: dice hate me.
My dice...
If I knew before how my greens would behave today, I wouldn't have flown flimsy dancers but some beefy brutes...

I tried something similar, except with Sensible Sister instead of Duchess, and with Supernatural Reflexes on the Inquisitors. She's sort of predictable (as predictable as a v1 can be), but Echo and the Inquisitors jump all over the place with pre-move rolls and boosts, ideally after a look at Anakin's dial.
I4433 and pretty weak guns, but great fun nonetheless.
...I'm still panicking a little over Braylen and Ten. Just high enough initiative to outmaneuver my TIEs, turning on a dime and having enough shields to ignore mostly my firepower for a couple of turns. Fortunately they're too expensive to fly with Cassian and Wedge now, but that list could still be tough to deal with if they swap one of them out for Thane, AP-5, Jake or Blount.

Cards > Dice.
Just as a game design principle in general. Effects that work when you play them well is always better than playing the odds and keeps you from getting screwed by the variance. But of course, that's pretty far removed from the subject of X-Wing.
On the other hand, for a homebrew variance-fixer, suppose we had a hand of 8 cards of each color (or a multiple, but the same distribuiton as the dice faces), and we could choose when to use which ones. Attack and defense are chosen simultaneously, but revealed and modified just as dice in the current game? You can't reuse any until you've gone through them all, so you could have super hot dice early on but then you're left with just blanks... It's an idea.
