Hi, I am 100% confident this has been discussed - probably killing several horses along the way - but the search function here returns too many non-relevant results, so I'm asking again. I have a sizable 1.0 collection, so I bought two 2.0 core sets, two Galactic Empire conversion kits, two Rebel conversion kits, and two Scum conversion kits. When I am all done punching and dial assembling, I have exactly eight 2.0 shield tokens.

I have plenty of ships. I don't intend to buy into the new stuff. All I want is to be able to fly my old stuff with 2.0 rules. Not going to happen with eight shield tokens. They included plenty of new stress tokens (because they changed shape?) and lots of charge and force tokens (because they're new) but I have with everything I purchased to convert to 2.0 six evade tokens (no worries, I'll keep using my old ones), six ion tokens (again, could continue to use my old ones I guess), plenty of tractor beam tokens...and so on. But eight shield tokens? Really?

I've seen plenty of topics posting about taking a sharpie or something to my old shield tokens to color one side red; I guess that's what I'll be doing. But I would really like to know if FFG ever addressed the shortfall. If anyone can link me to the right topic, or even just give me good search terms, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Essential and Nonessential Components

• Nonessential components are components for which substitutions are
generally allowed as long as they are appropriate and clear in purpose.

Indicators ( Nonessential )
Indicators, including tokens, markers, and charges are representations of

Indicators are considered nonessential components—their information must
be expressed, but players may use appropriate substitutes. Typically, players

are resistant to accidental modification, and their purpose of use is clear to
both players. The marshal is responsible for determining the legality of an
indicator and its reasonable usage during a match if objected to by its owner’s
opponent.
The following are types of indicators:
• Tokens: Tokens are circular and square indicators that represent
resources or temporary changes in game state for a single ship. They are
placed in the play area next to the ship they affect.
• Markers: Markers are indicators that represent changes in game state
for a single object or indicate its position. Some are hexagonal, but others
are not. Markers are placed in the play area next to the object they affect.
• Shields and Charges: Shields and charges are indicators with two
states: an “active” state and an “inactive” state. These two states must
be differentiable by an opponent across the table. Shields and charges are
placed next to the specific card to which they pertain. There are two types
of charges: standard charges (󲈮) and Force charges (󲈯).

As long as you meet that requirement your good to go. A very visible black line on one face of the token to indicated that it is a spent shield, coloring the spent face with red marker, etc. all work. Just needs to be crystal clear which side is which.

Fair enough. Not as sexy as the new stuff, and not really what they should have done.

I did see that some of the newer conversion kits do have shield tokens. I have not opened those yet, so there's another option. Thanks for the productive reply.

You could also try one of the groups that do Acrylic tokens and templates.

To my pleasant surprise, I found a lot more shield tokens in the First Order Conversion Kit. If you're thinking about converting that faction, you'll find seven shield tokens in that box.

What's wrong with 1st edition shields? If you won't reload them just remove them when spent

FWIW, I'm one of those who used red sharpie to color a side on my 1.0 shields and I've been quite happy with them. The new tokens actually seem more petite and I find the chunkyness of the old ones more pleasant to handle. I've also drifted back to using the old ion, stress, cloak, and critical hit tokens. The rule where circle tokens go away at the end of the round and square ones stay system is really nice but seems to work just as well as "circles go, non-circles stay :)"

I would recommend buying the Red Sharpie Conversion it. It's pretty cheap:

Just fill in one side of the 1st Edition shield tokens.

I originally used an orange sharpie as it didn't make the red too dark.

This can be visually displeasing to some, myself included, as too dark is as bad as no colour.

I eventually went in on a group buy from curled paw to replace my cardboard.

Keep in mind that 2.0 ships don't need as many shields as 1.0 ships did. Large 2.0 ships give you a fair amount of tokens as well. Lando's falcon is one example.

I recently invested in 15x shield tokens from CurledPaw. I’m very happy with them. I’ve found myself flying builds specifically with a bunch of shields so I can play with my new tokens.

Also, keep an eye out for a derpy misprinted charge token that has no red side.

I can't remember which kit it shows up in, but if you're not aware, you might inadvertently have "unlimited" charges on one of your upgrades.

I was going to suggest this as I have heard that orange sharpie makes the red look better than a red sharpie, although I have never tried it myself. Did you like the way the orange looked compared to red? Was it a good color red when you were done?

I have sharpies-a-plenty as I bought them a while back when someone posted some awesome pictures of tokens painted on the side. And as you probably expect, I have plenty of 1.0 shield tokens to experiment on in order to get it right. Thanks.

First Order Conversion, and there are two of them (I think they were on the "extra" punch out that had the addition FO, Silencer, and Upsilon pilots)

It was still a dark red as you are colouring over blue.

I coloured the "v" markings around the shield icon as well.

Definitely noticeable beside a shield token but still dark.

I finally went with curled paw as their tokens are amazing.
