Hilariously Illegal Ship Builds

By ClassicalMoser, in X-Wing

Anakin Skywalker, 7B, Darth Vader, Hate, Moldy Crow, R4 Astromech, BB-8, Spare Parts Canister.

Dial in any speed 1-2 maneuver. Get the BB-8 action. 4 Die primary, and stack 2 Focus for defense or offense, saving you Force for Vader activations and Fine Tuned...which you can Regen with Hate.

Not as stupid broken, but you would be hard pressed to find many better I6 builds out there, especially if you tossed on Sense to counter the other I6 monsters being thrown around here.

Alternatively, Dengar, Nien Numb, R4, 7B, Moldy Crow, Fanatical, Expert Handling.

Just slam those two modded shots through while you abuse the 1.0 levels of maneuverability.

Road Grader Hera. Coming in at a healthy 155 points

Hera (73)

Punishing One title (8)

Delta-7B (16)

Dorsal Turret (2)

Special Forces Gunner (10)

Finn (10)

Rey (Gunner) (14)

Perceptive Copilot (8)

Advanced Optics (4)

Greedo (1)

Fifth Brother (9)

8 reds at range one, plus a 9th die (hit) from Finn/Rey

Moldy Vader

Vader with Moldy Crow, Engine Upgrade, FCS, Stealth Device, Advanced Optics, Afterburners

I almost died laughing at the Hera build. 6 points more lets you double-tap it. Add FCS or Predator for passive rerolls, Zeb and intimidation for defensive punishment, etc.

These are hilariously dumb

Punishing One, Delta, and SFG only work with primary sadly.

Why not both? hah

I was thinking both Zeb and Intimidate but decided that would just be too ridiculous :P .

oh, hello there, IG-2000

Ok, let’s push the dumb to the extreme.

Can we get 10?

Needed:

Punishing One

7B

Special Forces Gunner (brilliant add!)

Finn

5 dice at range 1

Now adding Trick Shot gets you 10, if you can have a range 1 obstructed. Jan Ors pilot can get you one as well, and is a better option.

What else? Well per the rules, as minimal as they are, we can’t add a second title. So no Lando’s. Outmaneuver kinda gets it there, but the other way. Unfortunately things like Advanced Proton torpedos on Fenn, well, it doesn’t play nice with two of our upgrades.

Come on people, what other ways can we juice this to 10 dice!

Vennie (Hate, IG-88 D, Rey, Special Force Gunner, Pattern Analyzer, Punishing One ). Special Force Gunner on anything with a double-end turret and a front-arc weapon * can double-dip and get both benefits--the extra front-arc die, plus a bonus attack. 5+3 dice front-arc double-tap (6+4 dice at range 1!), with Hate for near-unlimited force charges. Only 106 points (110 if going with Perceptive Copilot), which isn't too pricey. Considering that an A-Wing could bring M9-G8 instead of a T-70, seems like it'd really easily slot into the existing archetype.

Punishing One seems like it'll be the best title by far on almost anything. 8 points for an extra red die is an amazing buy, if you aren't a Jumpmaster. Vader, Fenn Rau, whatever.

However, Slave One on any arc dodger is going to be wicked sweet, and a great buy for list which already runs Punishing One . 56 points gets Soontir Fel with Predator.

* So this means MG-100s and also double-end turrets like YT-1300s or VT-49 with Moldy Crow. 4-dice front-arc primary (5 at R1), with a Turret bonus attack... not bad.

Edited by theBitterFig

Ok try this

Fenn Rau, Punishing One, 7B, Special Forces Gunner, VTG, Dorsal Turret

8 dice front shot, plus a bonus turret attack at 5 dice. Add Finn to make it 9+6. With Fearless and FCS and you’re a hair over 120. But what a railgun.

Sol Sixxa, Elusive , Andraste, Vet Tur Gunner, Paige Tico, Skilled Bombardier, Afterburners, ICT, Proton Bombs, Seismic Charges, Trajectory Sim, Contraband Cybernetics, Chopper Astro, R2-D2 Astro, Spare Parts Canister, Jabba, Cloaking Device. 124 pts.

Edited by Hiemfire
I forgot Elusive. Gotta keep that maintenance mech ticking.

Sounds like a nice wild card format of 1 pilot and any upgrade regardless of upgrade slot or any other restrictions.

We've got a winner!

Put Fenn and Tallonbane with ig2000, that's already 6 reds at range 1, plus the upgrades discussed by other people... Ouch.

Virago, huh? Why not go full-on Moldy Crow ? Or Slave I . Or Rey's Millenium Falcon. Oooooh.

True, Rey's Millennium falcon would be awesome!

Awww, but at least that means it works on all front-arc weapons, right?

Hatchetman?

Meanwhile I’m just imagining all the things I can put Andrasta on. With the gunboat configs.

OS-1 Rhymer anyone?

... I'm pretty sure it's just the primary forward arc since the configuration is attached to the ship card.

Moralo Eval + IG-2000 with Dengar+IG88D+Moldy Crow+R4 Astromech. Fly off the board every turn with your recurring charge! (And fix your rubbish dial while you're at it)

Actually, the Quick Build cards often have some good ones.

  • Rey (Resistance YT-1300) with Finn (Gunner) and BB-8 (Astromech) is a pretty priceless one. Barrel rolling falcons are a disturbing concept, especially with engine upgrade and inertial dampeners to boot.
  • Alternatively Chewbacca (Rebel YT-1300) comes with two gunners (Han & Luke) and 3 crew (Leia, R2-D2 and C-3PO)

More a Squadron than a single ship build:

Seyn Manara (30), Heroic (1), Predator (2), Optimised Prototype [33]

OP and the pilot ability mean she can do two damage to a ship without having to care for defensive dice. Would have loved Rey Gunner here, but that does not work without a turret arc

Gavin Darklighter (61), Director Krennic (5), R4 (2), R3 (3), FCS(2) [73]

The combination of Krennic and Target locks from anywhere is great. Additionally, I finally don't have to think about which astro mech droid to take. Gavin is for setting up the crits for Seyn.

Howlrunner (40)

Why not double down on the Seyn synergy by giving dice mods. This is the weakest link and should probably be removed. Edit: replace her with M9-G8 on the third ship.

Thane Kyrell (48)

Flipping damage cards is great, if there is a way to get them under shields.

Don’t be too proud of these combowing terrors you’ve constructed. The ability to throw 10 Red Dice is insignificant next to the power of IG-2000.

Countdown + Pure Sabacc + Howlrunner + "Mauler" Mithel + "Scourge" Skutu all equipped with IG-2000, with 3 pts to spare. Now the following is true for all 5 ships:

  • For each friendly ship in range 0-1 (including itself), you may reroll 1 dice
  • While defending, during the Neutralize Results step, if you are unstressed you may take 1 damage and gain 1 stress token to cancel all results.
  • When you have 1 or fewer Damage cards, you gain 1 additional attack die.
  • When you attack an enemy in range 1, you gain 1 additional attack die.
  • When you attack an enemy in your bullseye, you gain 1 additional attack die.

In the best case scenario, you are rolling 7+7+6+6+6 red dice at I4/I4/I5/I5/I5 with 5 rerolls per ship + focus, and every ship that isn't stressed can shrug off a combowing 10 dice attack and turn it into 1 damage. I think it'd be hard to beat the raw efficiency of such a list. It'd pretty much kill 100+ pt godships though with how severely Countdown negates damage and the rest of the list stacks offensive synergy. IG-2000 probably has a number of other absurdly busted combos. One IG-2000 squad you can do has Tel Trevura + 2 of Dengar/Dace/Nym/Seevor which makes everyone but Tel unkillable, though Seevor and Dace need Soulless One + Hull Upgrade to actually survive the 5 hull damage Tel Trevura's ability inflicts.

How about:

  • Null (31)
  • Wampa (30)
  • Countdown (44)
  • Pure Sabacc (44)
  • Sabine Wren (attack shuttle) (42)

All with IG-2000.

Five ships. All of them are initiative 7, with pre-maneuver repositioning and two extra attack dice each.

196 points, enough to round the list out with Greedo and Leia.

OR combo Ten Numb + Countdown for extra unkillability

...

I think what we've learned today is that IG-2000 effectively breaks this entire exercise when it comes to squad building, because without restrictions no one would ever build a squad without it

Man I about died laughing. This is 100% true; that one upgrade just kills the whole thing.

EDIT: It's been half an hour and I'm still laughing ...

If we’re trying to Countdown a beefier ship, why not Hera? Completely negate her lack of green dice 😂

Because why bother throwing 4 when you can throw 5 or 6 red dice? TIEs with IG-2000 are the way to go.

There was already a discussion on getting Hera to 7 red dice. I was just adding her to the Countdown IG list. Bc Hera ❤️
