[Blog] Obstacle Basics with Guest Writer Bob Howe

A discussion of Obstacles by Arch Alliance's Bob Howe. Check it out here, and let me know what you think.

The other thing to consider when choosing your obstacles, is (of course) which ones your opponents are likeliest to have trouble with!

I tend to use large debris, because I don't lose shots if I need to land on it, and it hinders Tie swarms and manoeuvrable aces more than my ships - usually!

Another thing you should have done is obstacle impact. Asteroids tend to have the most impact while gas clouds have an impact but it isn't the same way. I wouldn't call what you made as deep strategy as it is known that obstacles take away area form the play space and if you have a list that takes up lots of area then obstacles tend to work against you. You could have also added in the difference between lots of small ships in flying formation and big ships in placement of obstacles. For large base ships obstacles that are 1" apart tends to be more disruptive because it creates almost a wall that a large base can't fit in between where with small bases in formation spreading out the obstacles further covers more area and increase the chance of obstacle impact and disruption of the formation.

It is very basic at the least, for more information I would suggest you look at the video below for information on Turn 0 also known as the placement of obstacles (deployment hasn't been that big of a meta issue yet). But odds are you can find a lot of strategy discussion on various podcasts and youtube videos if you know where to look. So here is a start.
