(And apropos of nothing, while I'm definitely in the minority here, I've never been much of a fan of Dunwich. Yes, injury and madness are good, and the AOs and investigators are welcome additions, but, as you say, the board is pretty disappointing.)

I can almost see that argument as being valid ;') but there's one thing that people who "aren't" Dunwich fans often overlook. The monsters. Not having the Dunwich monsters *really* detracts from the toughness of the monster cup.

You've alluded to this before, and I was hoping you might elaborate. Stalker movement definitely livens things up, and Wraiths and the Colour can be a pretty major nuisance, but on the whole, the Dunwich monsters don't strike me as particularly different from the base set's fiercer monsters (and on average they seem approximately as tough as the ones in Innsmouth, for example). Am I missing something, or is the increase in difficulty just a result of there being proportionally fewer cultists and zombies to wuss up the monster cup?

I think Avi is exaggerating a little, but the Dunwich monsters are tough. Star Vampire is still one of the scariest monsters out there. There's nothing nice about him: hard to beat, hard to evade, hard to avoid. UGH. And the Wraith is a pretty scary flying monster too. Rat Things? Better have a couple items you can live without!

Dunwich monsters are some of the coolest of all expansion monsters though. Not that I don't appreciate all the other expansion monsters... but Dunwich's make me happy inside. Or maybe that is the beer :-O

Colour from outer space, mummy, hunting horror.

I can't believe you missed Colour :')

Neither can I! I was tired, all right? Color's one of my favorites!

CooS stats

Physical AND Magical Immunity? Nearly impossible horror check? Sanity-sapping ability? Woo hoo!

The color is a big fat jerk XD But with Cthonian, it does make sense that there'd be sanity counterpart. But just because it makes sense, doesn't mean I have to like it ;D

Though I did rather like the story it came from...

The Color is probably the best designed monster in the game. In my games, people often look at the monster and say something like, "A Color from Out of Space? No problem, I'll just... I just, um. Hmm."

Martial Arts.

Martial Arts, Shotgun, or Fisticuffs are fine... IF you can get past that wretched horror check! Plus, you need to necessarily have any of those items to use those tactics. Colour is nasty.

Also helpful: Hank and Zoey

partido_risa.gifpartido_risa.gifpartido_risa.gif Those looks are priceless, are they not?

"Yes? You were saying...?"
"Can I Evade? What's its Awareness? Yeah, I'm gonna Evade."
"Run away, then, is it?"
"Shut up."

Recently, a Colour "moved" four times in consecutive turns. My pal Pizza, playing Wilson, got so enraged--"Where is this jerk?!?"--he charged fully sane out of the Asylum right up to the thing, forfeited the Horror Check, and punched it in the face (maxed Fight).

Yep, Zoey, Hank and Lily eat Colurs for breakfast.

Yep, thank God for the Evade check. I usually end up maxing out Fight and spending 1-3 clue tokens to pass the Horror check. And then like an idiot I spend the trophy at the Science Building.
