So Basicly, my friend is on a budget and was wondering if the rebel a wing models are legal for tournament play as resistance a-wings?

Everything else is resistance. It is only the model that will be rebel. Is that allowed? My assumption would be no because they specifically say they are Rz-2 a wings but just checking.

No, this would not be legal by RAW.

First, check with the Tournament Organizer. @thespaceinvader Is correct but, depending on the level of the tournament, the TO may be fine with it.

Next, your friend should reach out to your local groups and see what they can borrow. We’re all reasonably nice folk, I bet they can find some loaners for the tourney

Technically, not legal. Realistically, no one cares. Like, I think I've seen folks on stream in larger tournaments using Empire TIE/LN in place of First Order TIE/SF, so it's kind of anything-goes in practice.

However, the big thing will be the dials. Gotta have the right dials and ship cards, and those aren't interchangable. Without those, the ship model is kind of irrelevant.

Lastly, as per @Opsmason , it's good to reach out to the local community. Folks usually have spares.

As others have said, its not tournament legal. Casually you'd be fine. The big thing (outside of the above mentioned) is causing confusion. Which would be a player by player basis. Now i know most here would argue that "its not a big deal, get over it" but ship representation IS important and having the wrong model *can* confuse people, otherwise FFG wouldnt have felt the need to include that rule. Speaking personally, I can get confused by such things. Looking at the model, in that moment, and thinking its just an RZ-1, and forgetting that "oh yeah, it can have a rear arc".

If for some reason you have absolutely everything else, but not the model, the best thing to do is barrow one, or make sure you *Can* if you need to. Even asking the TO may not be enough as the most he can do is allow it so long as each of your opponents is ok with it. IF your opponents DO have an issue with it, the TO cannot force them to play against incorrect ship models.
