My first 2.0 Tournament

By Jiron, in X-Wing

Hi fellow pilots.

in first edition I have been to quite a lot of tournaments including several Nationals. After second edition, our group died off and I have had some ten-ish games since then. This month I go for my first second edition tournament and I know nothing (just like certain bastard). What is the meta nowadays? IS there a meta nowadays? I never played against Republic or CIS? What do they do? What should I be prepared to see?

Thanks. I am trying to jump back in the cockpit.

I'd check out list fortress to see top performing lists right now. But it also depends on if your tournament is Hyperspace or Extended. That makes a huge difference on what to prepare for. You definitely want to know that ahead of time. Also your timing is a bit weird as there's a points adjustment at the end of the month that'll likely change what's on top right now.

As for CIS and Republic, they're still figuring things out a bit but the biggest threat the Republic has is Arc spam (three with a Jedi or four generics). Two Torrents and two Jedi have proven good too*. CIS uses swarms or double Influtrator mostly.

Welcome back to the game! Good luck.

Thanks. I ran through it and I think I got what I needed to know. Not much sources for Hyperspace though. Still I need to prepare for the new incarnation of 4 Ship Rebels (Wedge, Braylen, Ten and Cassian) as it seems to be a big deal.

You really need to watch some streamed games on YouTube to see what certain ships and factions can do/are doing. Also subscribe to their twitch channels too, so you can follow along while they play live.

Try the Battlereport Archive to suss out specific ships or pilots that you want to watch.

Gold Squadron Podcast will be streaming the hyperspace trial from team covenant Friday night and all day Saturday. He streams on YouTube and Twitch. I'm certain many top players will be there so that will give you an idea of what lists to expect. You can also check out his YouTube channel as he has streamed many hyperspace trials this season.

In Hyperspace, you need to deal with Rebel Beef. That is the list that is everywhere. If you are not running it, then attack it from at least three different angles. The one advantage that list has is entire squad doing white kturns/talons, etc. If you approach from multiple angles, whenever they turn around, you have someone on their back for three rounds until they can do it again. Dont joust the list. When they turn on one of your ships, you run with them, and shoot the list in the back and then vice versa. Make them waste as many leia triggers as possible, or else start to spread their arcs.

Republic strongest lists are with regening Jedi. They are crafty and hardly ever stressed. Be prepared for them to run for the hills when their shields drop.

CIS has two strong lists: Wat with 6 vultures all with energy shells, and the Double Infiltrator list with Maul and Dooku. The Wat swarm you need to engage just like rebel beef. Hit it from multple angles. Spend some time to make your approach and be sure all guns get on same engagement. Ideally, you would love to drop two in opening round. Why attack from multiple angles? Same with rebel beef. The swarm will know when you need to kturn and its an easy block. Coming from multple angles, means less kturning and more white and blue maneuvers.

Nice to see you back Jiron! Just grab an assorted mixture of X-Wings, B-Wings, Y-Wings, and maybe a U-Wing or two and joust stuff, seems to be working pretty well :)

I had a lot of fun personally with UXXYY (all generics, Leia on the U, Ion turrets on the Y's, and a Seismic Charge somewhere)

Welcome back, pilot.

These days you're gonna' see a metric ton of BEEF flying around, so be careful and try to run Firepower-3 ships more often than not. The Republic and Rebellion have quick and easy access to it, and they're getting more popular as time goes on.

Thanks for summary! I’m a Resistance guy so I’ll probably Fly 3-4 x-wings and see what I do. 😉
