A buddy and I were recently lamenting how easy it is to nudge and slide ships on accident, and brainstorming ways to make that less prone to happening. My buddy threw out an idea of filling the underside of the bases with silicone to add a little more weight and friction. We haven’t tried it yet, though.

Before we go too far, I wanted to check in here. I’m sure you guys know what I mean about how much of a pain this can be. I was wondering if anyone’s found a solution that they’d be willing to share?

I put a large washer in the base for weight (I believe a 1/2 fender washer was perfect for a small base), then I poured in a 2-part urethane we use at work (but silicone out of a caulk gun would probably work as well).

I used a belt sander to flatten out the bottom when I was done. I love the final result. I'll never go back to stock bases.

I use the sticky stuff you put in kitchen cabinets on the bottom, lasts a few years and dirt cheap. probably have some at your place already

I've got a buddy who is gluing squares of yoga mat to the underside of his bases.

I use these from Escapade Gaming and Gear in Sweden. I wouldn't play without them. Looks like they're sold out of everything but medium bases right now though.

At Walmart you can get thin black mousepads for $5. They are just about the right thickness to fill in your bases and give them some grip (you might want to add a layer of cardstock or something so that the mousepad grips the mat more. A friend of mine did that with good results). I got 2 mousepads and they were enough to do about 8 small bases, 4 medium bases, and 2 large bases. 5 stars. Would use again. Would recommend to a friend.

I have those on some bases, and the thickness is not always quite enough, so some of the bases do stick ok, but some are just like if nothing was there

That's strange. I've never had that problem with them. Nor has anyone I know, I think.

Yeah have covered a bunch of bases is cut up mouse mat. It's nice.

I'm using a washer in each base and fill them up with silikon. Very cheap, easy to do, works perfectly fine and gives them a good, weighty feel.

I’ve got washers on my small base ships. Just the washers alone help a ton. And they’re stupid cheap.

These are what I use, I really love them. Having both the weight and the stickiness is awesome. Shipping is expensive but I haven't seen any that are better out there.

I cut and glued very cheap mousepad with sticky underside to all of my bases. Thickness is just right and it costs around $6 for mousepad and superglue.

I've been using those sticky squares you put under the chair to avoid damaging the floor. However, they're too thick I and I have to cut almost half of it before sticking it to the base.

Most of the time, they do the job.

I use washers too, and though i still occasionally bump ships with my arms, its no where near as bad as without them.

I used mouse pads at first and then tried the ones from Sweden, both work fine. the muse pads ae a little cheaper, but require some work to cut.

I think it's on etsy, I ordered some plumb squares attached to a plastic that does under the keyboards for keeping them from moving. Very efficient. Little mistakes are litteraly removed.

The only thing is that I ordered them before 2.0, so I don't have some for the medium base.

I found somewhere to use kitchen cabinet door bumpers. They are the little plastic/resin things that prevent kitchen cabinet doors from banging loudly when they slam. A sheet is pretty cheap. You can buy at Wal-mart or on Amazon. I don't recall the exact size as it's been years.

The ones I use are made by Everbilt and are hemispherical with adhesive on the flat side. They come 16 to a pack but I've seen sheets on Amazon that have more for the same price.

In the UK you can neoprene foam cheap as chips - for less than £3 delivered I got 5 metres of self-adhesive foam.

3mm thick is the exact thickness so it grips the mat but doesn't lift the base off.

30mm width is perfect to sit inside the base.

5 metres means you have enough for a EVERY SINGLE ONE of your bases, or half a dozen small, medium and large bases for EVERYONE in your squadron.

As others have said, if you get a washer to glue under your base, you can add some weight. Make sure to get the ones with a hole in the middle so the small bases stack neatly. Cut the foam into triangles and stick them into the corners.
