Looks like a deep dive into Kazue’s mind-whammy ability. Given Mitsu’s presence, I’d suspect that it takes place before the Army of the Rising Wave leaves for Otosan Uchi.

I'm sure by the end of the novel I'll be more confused than when I started the novella. Looking forward to being clueless.

It takes place before the main timeline begins (i.e. before "The Rising Wave").
