displacement rules whats your opinion

So this came up at a RPQ i attended and i don't fully agree with the rules i will follow them untill they are change
If a unit leader was displaced, it must be placed within range 1 of its original position. After the leader is placed, any minis of that unit that are not in cohesion are placed in cohesion; this could cause a mini that was not displaced to be moved
now range 1 is pretty far free movement with 1 suppression to that unit (free light cover woot).
do you think it should be change to movement 1 instead or into base contact with the vehicle that displace them as it limits how far forward the unit can be moved ahead or behind or into contact with a objective.

To me they are fine as they are. I think the objective is that you wouldn't wanna displace troopers because if you do, your opponent will have a pretty far range to reposition them and put you at a disadvantage for displacing them.

I think it would not be a good thing to change it to base contact. If you would displace your own unit leaders, you could create a significant amount of bonus movement that way. The options for your opponent to place your unit would be very limited.

It may make some sence to change range 1 to speed 1, but I don't think it would make a huge difference.
Speed-one is still a significant distance and not so much shorter than range 1. You usually avoid to displace unit leaders anyway.
In a lot of cases when Idisplaced enemy units,, my opponent also had an interest to keep them relativly near to the original place, because he wanted to keep them in cover or near supportcharacters.

base contact with the unit that displace them wouldn't move them that much.

while alot of people would do this, some units benefit from moving forward like vader and wookies. so a range 1 movement for them is huge and dangerous to armies.

I think it would. If I place my AT-RT ot Tauntauns right behind my unit leader and make a full move into the direction I want to move, that is almost a free move action for my displaced unit.

It is. Thats why noone would displace an opposing Vader. If you displace your own Vader, it only works against you.
There might be some more situations where you would displace a Wookie unit leader. However, if you need to move through that unit you usually would just pivot or reverse to displace only miniatures that are not unit leaders.
