Talisman more scarce?

By crimhead, in Talisman

Hello.

I'm wondering if anyone else finds Talismans are harder to come by since Frostmarch? I'm assuming there are few or none included in the adventure cards in that set. I used to find they were always plentiful, but now it seems more and more we are relying on Quests to obtain them.

This is good IMO. Especially since Frost March introduced tougher Quest cards, and a new rule where in Quest cards are drawn an not chosen.

When Frost March was new, I figured nobody would accept these random, more difficult quests just for a Talisman (which at the time I considered to be a mediocre commodity), so we started using the optional rule to take a random treasure. But now I'm finding more and more people are choosing a Talisman instead of treasure, and even seeking the Warlock's Cave just to get one.

I know the random treasure rule is not popular on these boards, so that aside, dose anyone else find more players questing for a Talisman despite the increased (average) difficulty in the quest deck?

Weird, in many of my games the Talisman "deck" seems to be running empty quite a bit. Granted, it's only 4 cards thick, but still. Temple seems very prone to natural 10 and since Fate is in short supply, people just take the Talisman to lug around, preferrably for the Alchemist or as backup (or even denial to others). Actually, any character who gets +1 or +2 when praying seems to somehow always roll 8+ right away, turning their bonus to almost useless (you really want to roll 5 or 6, that way you get to pump whichever stat you're boosting. Lake of Visions (2x in the Adventure deck IIRC) also offer cheap Talismans via Quests (since you can cherry-pick your Quest there) and Path of Destiny is frequently used, adding more Quests and more Talismans.

I agree that talismans are harder to get, but this is good.

in our last games, i drew a quest to get my hands on a talisman.

The Warlock cave has become a interesting place to visit.

Yes, indeed, quests are becoming the more common way to get a talisman... but my group has also gone as far as playing a couple games with the Adventure version Talismans removed... really forcing one to go after them.
