Happy Friday - Which faction has the best tie fighter....

Anyone who doesn't recognize Iden Versio as the far-and-away best TIE has likely never played against an Inferno Squad TIE Swarm.

Being able to flat out cancel your opponent's best attack roll is basically like having an extra ship on the board, and is supremely psychologically frustrating for your opponent. There's also no way to counterplay it or shut it down.

It's all about that one turn. So many squads depend on a huge garunteed hit to pop a tie.

I run Iden, Howlrunner, Del, and Seyn and I rarely lose even one by the end.

No Gideon. Gideon is bad.

So just 4 TIEs? What do you do with the 60 points left over?

So... should FFG rename the game to "Star Wars: TIE Fighter"?

They do have a cartoon that is a little more BAD@$$

Tried the 7 Epsilon Sq. Cadets. It's supremely susceptible to variance, but it seems fair. I doubt it will win tournaments, but it has a good chance for a winning record. I never got to put their excellent dials to use, and I flew then mostly at range 1 of reach other despite having no abilities that need it - it just makes focus for so much easier.

It's very frustrating to have several range 1 shots end up with 1 hit each, but it's equally frustrating for your opponent when you natty evade out of energy shell charges. I really think the extra shield over an Academy Pilot for just 5 points is really solid.

Soontir. I'm 2-0 with this squad, and unbeaten with inferno squads in general:

TIE/in Interceptor - •Soontir Fel - 57
•Soontir Fel - Ace of Legend (52)
Juke (5)

TIE/ln Fighter - •“Howlrunner” - 41
•“Howlrunner” - Obsidian Leader (40)
Crack Shot (1)

TIE/ln Fighter - •Iden Versio - 41
•Iden Versio - Inferno Leader (40)
Crack Shot (1)

TIE/ln Fighter - •Seyn Marana - 31
•Seyn Marana - Inferno Four (30)
Marksmanship (1)

TIE/ln Fighter - •Del Meeko - 30
•Del Meeko - Inferno Three (30)

Total: 200/200

Seyn Marana is amazing, though I must say I'm also a fan of Scorch.

what did you use the remaining points on? You've got enough spare there to field one of the named epsilon pilots, TN-3465, or Lieutenant Rivas, instead of cadet #7.

I went at 196 just to keep it simple. I would probably pick TN-3465, but I think I want to try just the Epsilons a few more times first.

TN-3465 is actually one of the more awkward ones. She wants to be in the front rank to get to range 1 of whoever she's going to be playing the part of 'unfortunate collateral damage' for, but at initiative 2 she moves after the cadets.

She's great in a TIE/fo all-stars list because if people know what she does she's great at drawing fire off the more valuable pilots like "Midnight" or "Scorch".

(because if you don't kill her at range you're going to eat critical after critical)

Either from the enemy or your own attacks, she's likely to eat lasers in the opening engagement. Which is fine if she's drawing fire off someone more important, but if she's the only limited pilot in the squad it kind of feels like using Biggs Darklighter to protect a generic Blue Squadron Escort.

The other problem is that taking a crit to turn a single die from a 2-dice attack into a crit seems...well, it's not as good as changing a blank to a crit on a 3- or 4-dice attack, so I think I'm backpedaling there. If I keep flying 7 /fo's, I'll stay at 196. Even if initiative doesn't matter much, if I win it I get to place two of my big rocks in the most annoying spots for my opponent.

Lt. Rivas is something to consider.

I think Rivas is a good 7th dude. Because basically any negative token triggers his ability, he'll get focus/target locked attacks as often as not.

Yes, it means he 'stands out' and will get shot at first, but if you get a free lock (which will generally happen in the activation phase if you're not packing tractor beams, ion missiles, etc), you'll know you can afford to spend your focus defensively without hitting his firepower too badly. Plus he's amazing in a turning fight once people start pulling talon rolls, segnor's loops and linked boosts and barrel rolls. He's especially good in a squad with a few generic TIE/sf packing a targeting synchroniser, but obviously that's not relevant in a TIE/fo swarm.

The other pilot I'd seriously consider is "Null" - you can fly 6 TIEs in a block easily enough, and he gives you (temporarily) something which can act as an antidote to the inevitable "look, I'm initiative 6, and I roll out of your arc of fire after you move...aren't I just an amazing pilot?!?!?!" crowd

"Muse" also fits points-wise but she's best when given a few upgrades that you can't afford here. Pattern Analyser plus her ability makes her a baby TIE defender, especially with Fanatical. Alternatively Squad Leader isn't cheap but she's one of the best people to take advantage of it since she effectively makes the action white, which makes her a cheaper and much more mobile command platform than a shuttle to assist First Order aces.
