Nightsisters adventure idea

By Andreievitch, in Game Masters

I am wanting to bring some Fear into a game and also some Force users. It is an AoR campaign where we haven't had any force wielding enemy as yet. I have a thought for a game, and am looking for advice/ideas:

The campaign is set shortly before Rogue One. The players are Rebels and on their way Jedha to find out what the Imperials are doing there. I have introduced Zygerrian and Trandoshan slavers into the campaign, and the PCs have learned those groups are supplying slaves to the Imperials on Jedha.

The game idea:

The PCs pick up a distress signal while they are on their way to Jedha. They learn it is a slaver ship in distress, but find out little else. Knowing the PC's motivations, they will want to check out the ship, in an attempt to save the slaves and free them.

When the PCs arrive, they actually find 2 ships at the site, one is the slaver ship, which looks in bad shape, and the other is an ancient ship, docked to the slaver ship.

The ancient ship is a old ship carrying Nightsisters, who are on their way to discover the crystals of Jedha, chasing an old legend this banished coven discovered. The slaver ship unwittingly discovered the ship, and have paid the price. The witches have transferred the slaves to their own ship planning to make use of them as their own slaves/toys.

The players must now battle through the witches to free the slaves.

Thoughts?

Stealing from Rebels, maybe there's a room on the witch's ship that contains an altar...complete with soil, foliage, and pillars and other artifacts from their homeworld. The altar contains a few spirits, and can be used to possess (failed Fear check perhaps). If things go poorly for the witches, some slaves will be brought to the altar to be turned on the party, which means the PCs will have to decide how to handle the possessed ones. Personally I'd have fun with that moral quandry, if they take down the possessed they will be more susceptible to being possessed themselves, and vice versa, in the form of a setback or boost when they make a Fear check. A PC or NPC can be un-possessed by dragging them (kicking and screaming) out of the altar area.

Just MHO, I wouldn't make the state of affairs clear to the PCs when they arrive (that the Nightsisters have already taken over), and treat the fight as still ongoing. The NS's might be shrieking "mind your own business" over the comms, while the slavers might offer a rich reward (a promise they have no intention of keeping).

Nice ideas @whafrog !

My next question...are Nightsisters in any of the books? I am guessing they might be in a FaD book, but I only have the CRB.

This is spoilers for Ghosts of Dathomire. If anyone reading this thread hasn't played in it or is a player who might play in it, these contain mild spoilers. You have been warned.

For a book that features Nightsisters they don't feature very strongly at all, mostly focusing on crime syndicates around Toyderia. Pretty much the only direct mention to Nightsisters is the main antagonist, who is an ex-Nightsister, Ex-Inquisitor student who seeks a ton of power and a small cutaway box in one of the pages that mentions the status of the Nightsisters; basically explaining why the main villain abruptly changes from Syndicate henchmen to Nightbrothers. Presumably so that the campaign that you are running can either feature them or have them be extinct without much discord. My GM greatly expanded their role in the campaign as an evil cult and a "we have had enough of these evil artefacts" cult. Ended up really hating it because I never got to interact with the major plot elements, I was just there to be duped to giving the betraying PC everything they wanted. I hate that character so much.

Not sure about other books. I know a clone wars book has them as a species but other then that, don't really know.

Other than mentioned above, I don't think so. The minion and rival sisters don't seem to have any Force abilities, you could easily use reskinned Thugs. Maybe a Rival has Enhance Leap or something not too flashy... If you go with the possession idea, the possessed could have whatever abilities they already have, so you could really mix it up. For the more serious adversaries, no reason you couldn't use the Inquisitor rules in the core book. Something like Mother Talzin would be on another level though...that Force shield bubble + green lightning would be pretty devastating.

That said, we have seen that Nightsister force use is much more "magical" than Jedi typically get. So a lower tier nightsister/brother might not have a specific force ability themselves, but they might have an active "spell" making them near-invisible, or stronger, or faster, or... well anything really. Tougher skin, big horns, the ability to remain conscious and active even after being WTed...

I recently ran a heavily modified version of Act III of Ghosts of Dathomir, and there are creepy Force visions in it with physical consequences for those who encounter them. I used the Nightsister ghosts in it as a sort of Imperial Valor for the Nemesis... anyone shooting at her had to get through the ghosts around her first.

Dathomir is covered in Dawn of Rebellion. The book has some discussion of the planet and the Nightsisters, along with stats for one named Shelish (and Maul). There's also a modular encounter with a bit of a horror type feel to it. It doesn't have you go up against a Nightsister in the encounter, but rather Force manifestations. It might be something useful for you to look at.

Collapse of the Republic will also cover this topic, and you can get a preview of it on the FFG news page here .

I was lucky enough to play test this book, but completely forgot they were in there! Now I have the actual book in my hot little hands I will use the stats for the game.
