New player fleet help

By Baldon3055, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hey all

I am new to Armada but have played x wing. I am not quite sure what faction I want to play as I haven't had a chance to play any games yet. I would like to get help on building a fleet or two for each faction with the ships I have purchased. Here is a listing of the ships I have. As I am new to Armada please don't use abbreviations , don't know them all yet lol.

Core sets x4
Home One x2
Imperial Victory Star Destroyer x3
Imperial Interdictor Star Destroyer
Imperial Star Destroyer
Rogues and Villains
Assault Frigate Mark II x3
Profundity
Imperial Light Carrier
Rebel Fighter Pack 1
Imperial Fighter Pack 1
Chimaera
Imperial Gladiator Star Destroyer

Welcome to Armada, and our forums!

Since you haven't played any games yet, I'd actually recommend reading pages 1-18 in the Learn to Play handbook that comes with a Core Set , and playing that scenario with a friend. If your friend has experience with the game and you don't, I would recommend that you play Rebels (the Nebulon-B and Corvette) and your friend plays Imperials. I would also recommend that you play as first player.

It's great that you have plenty of stuff! Pretty soon, you'll build your own 400 point fleet and use upgrades, objectives, and obstacles. But if you try to do that on your first game, it could take 5+ hours.

I highly recommend this website http://armadawarlords.hivelabs.solutions/

For building fleets.

I have a good understanding of the play format have watched several videos on YouTube showing how to play. I am just wanting 400 point fleet advice for both factions so I can practice with them and learn the card text before I go to a store game night in a few weeks.

So counter-questions.

What do you think looks cool on the table or interesting to play with?

Do you have a prefered playstyle? (Swarm, Big heavy, Balanced)

Do you want lots of squadrons or minimal-no squadrons?

My play styles are usually flexible. I guess I am after builds that can hit hard and can be competitive against more experienced players

Given the ships and upgrades you have, here are my suggestions. Screed and Ackbar are hard hitters. Your choice of objectives is limited, especially for Imperials, so I would highly suggest that you choose first player if you have the option. (If you tell your opponent this is your first game, maybe they'll even let you pick?) The Screed list really wants to go first anyway, because the Kuat with Governor Pryce can activate last on round 2, go first on round 3 and hit hard.

Both of these lists are pretty heavy on upgrades, but no squadrons. Which means a lot for you to read up on in the next few weeks. If you'd rather drop some upgrades for squadrons, that's fine. Just keep in mind that a lot of players now will play with a lot of squadrons, so if you bring just a few, there's a good chance they'll get wiped out pretty quickly.

Lastly, I highly recommend SWAE if you want to know how an upgrade or objective works. https://www.youtube.com/SWAEStarwarsarmadaexplained

Motti and Ackbar are, in my eyes, the most straightforward Commanders to begin with. Both have very powerful effects and are easy to apply. An argument can also be made for Darth Vader, at this point I'd say just go play with the models you like the most and if you have any question on those feel free to ask!

My advice for beginners is to keep simple,

dont have any upgrade cards for your ships and dont play with unique squadrons, just get a feel of the game in the first few games, how ships and squad move and attack, a tight 300 point game is ideal to start with.

Thank you for the ship lists will end up trying them out once I get a couple of starter games under my belt

Sorry, I just realized that you don't have Minister Tua, which means you can't put Electronic Countermeasures on the Victory. You can try Intel Officer instead.

Or you can just take off some of the upgrades and get a few squadrons. Maybe Howlrunner/Mauler Mithel and some TIE Fighters.

By the way, when you say you're going to a game night in a few weeks...do you know for sure that someone else will be there to play Armada with you?

What ship does Minister Tua come from?

Arquitens (Imperial Light Cruiser)

Which I will vouche as a crucial early purchase for Imperials, very solid ship to learn with due to it's moderate durability, a reasonable (if bizzare) maneuvering chart and general ease of use due to having very broad side-arcs that are easy to apply to targets.

Plus Moff Jerjerrod and Minister Tua are up in there and they're both great.

I bought the imperial light cruiser and should have it Monday lol

I also just bought the corellian conflict expansion, should I change the objectives cards listed in the fleet builds posted earlier?

You could, but the ones you have are fine

I'd recommend Solar Corona as your blue objective for both fleets.

Have you had time to practice?
