Five player, multi-player intro ideas?

By ArmadaMatt, in Star Wars: Armada

So my friend is getting married in July and wants to try out Armada at his bachelor party. There will be five of us and I'm the only one who currently plays. Any suggestions for doing a kind of "intro" multi-player version?

Right now I'm considering the Take the Station scenario (because of the low fleet points) and modifying the setup for five.

I hope to travel lightly since I'll be flying out. I have one core set and one of each expansion plus two of each fighter I pack.

Only thing I can think of as there is 5 people a square play area might not work maybe try a round play area and everyone spread evenly around the edge would my idea and maybe 150 pts each.

I've done something similar with a group of 5 where I was the only one who had played before. I got everyone into teams of 2, with me swapping between to help the teams out/clarification of the rules and strategic advice. It worked pretty well IMO,

Ah, good point. I'll have to see if I can manage that.

Sector fleet?

I thought about that, too, but I don't know if that might be too overwhelming for new players? Unless. I keep the fleets small still with minimal upgrades (in which case, it'll probably be less sector fleet and more like regular 400 on 400).

The Take the Station scenario is your best bet, I think. Possibly with you being referee rather than a player. Make simple lists: 1-2 ships with 0-2 simple upgrades (liaison officers on big ships, for example), and 1-2 basic squadrons. Go for something iconic, simple, and fun over well thought-out or competitive. (An ISD-II with Boba Fett and one upgrade, for example.)

I second this! Take the Station is a very good way to introduce new players to the game. I played it twice and found it really entertaining and challenging. 150 FP (without a commander upgrade) is not so much you can get confused too hard! Don't forget: It's a race! For that the fastest ships have an advantage. (CR90 with Engine Techs and spam Nav-Commands!)

And I also think it's better to let the beginners play and make a judge.

The system of initiative alternating clock wise is okay. But you could also think of making something more fun and bachelor-party-like. Something like: bidding some money (that the groom receives), telling the best joke, balance something on your nose, running round the table, ...

Give them each a smaller ship and they can try to take your big ship 4v1.
