Children of the Empire introduced the Composure mechanic, which I liked quite a bit. Incentivising away from Bid Five Always is, in my opinion, good for the game. Each clan got one Composure card, plus one for Mantis, for 8 cards in total. That's not many. What do y'all expect going forward? Will there be Composure cards in the Inheritance Cycle, and beyond? What's your overall opinion of the mechanic, or the cards themselves?
Maintaining Composure
It has potential for clans that have other options for card draw. For it to be really useful, either the composure effects will have to be a little extra to already solid cards with their own abilities. Or really killer abilities. There will also need to be plenty more characters printed with composure to offset the advantage of greater card draw.
Right now I like Scorpion's ability to mess with the dial and do all sorts of weird stuff, but, beyond that there isn't enough incentive to low bid.
It's not far away though. Honor decks are popping up and will eventually be a thing. It just remains time seen if there are any composure effects really worth it.
There is a lion card that relies on lower bid, and I found I got one turn surprise low bid and then honour dials just matched.
I like the idea of composure but expect it will take awhile before its useful.

A card like contingency plan, but that allowed you to actually change an opponents honour dial by one while bidding would be good for this.

Unfortunately I think that it would be imensely overpowered. You could use it you make people dishonour out very quickly when combinded with backhanded complement. Or block your opponent from drawing cards.
I feel a better way to go would be to introduce cards that trigger on particular honor bid values. Eg this ablity only can be played if there is a 3 on your honor dial. If you had enough cards like it of different values you could make a game where the bid vaules are other than one and 5.
I get the feeling that the only decks to actually make good use of composure would be dueling decks whose duels kind of force the opponent to try to win them, or a Scorpion duel deck that utilizes Social Puppeteer.

Make it have a one to five limit. Honourwise it would have no more effect than playing contingency plan, but it would allow you to either limit draw or steal an honour for draw.
