Padme's *what* initiative?!

I don't get the critique of Padme's IN since there's so many perspectives flying in from every angle

but the so called "hand-wave" argument is incredibly relevant. FFG explicitly stated that Initiative != pilot skill, SPECIFICALLY because silly arguments like this would occasionally break out. It's an ambiguous gameplay stat , why are we giving it such fluff importance?

Now I'm definitely not singling out the OP here, because this was certainly tongue-in-cheek, but I've seen some ridiculous vitriol on facebook groups about Padme's initiative (and her being a pilot in the first place). It's kinda disturbing how invested people can be in a supposed "contradiction" to what they feel is canon, especially when it's something as vague and ambiguous as "initiative"

Besides, regardless how one feels about the character and the movies, she was clearly shown to be a badass in episodes 1 & 2. So...who cares if she's I 4!?

Yeah, a lot of people are **icks, that's for sure. Personally I don't care at all, but I do like discussing it :)

I don't really buy that whole "initiative isn't pilot skill" thing, I feel like that actually is an example of developer hand waving to conceal a case of gameplay legitimately trumping fluff, ie for balance they had to make some fluffily great pilots a lower initiative. I think it's easier to justify in that direction - it's easy enough to say "this pilots's great but their style is they move first rather than reacting to their opponent's move" or some other exception to the general rule (and it *is* a general rule, just as with 1st edition PS high Initiative massively correlates with fluffily better pilot) but I think it's harder to justify the other way.

Having a high Initiative gives a pilot the ability to react to another pilots actions, which can be fluffily explained as either they predict the opponents actions, or their reactions are just incredibly quick, but how do you explain a non-magic non-expert pilot having either ability? I don't see any canon evidence to support Padmé being magic or an expert pilot, indeed I see canon evidence that she was a fighter pilot noob, albeit a natural.

People think Padme shouldn't be an N-1 pilot...?

This is incredible news. It means there's actually a group of people out there who have successfully erased Episode II from their memory. HOW CAN I BECOME ONE OF YOU

I don't remember Padmé flying an N1 in Ep 2. I thought the first time we saw that was in Forces of Destiny?

Literally in the opening scene...

You are entirely correct.

Luminara exists, people.

And juke!

Piss people off when they roll a focus on defense

Oooooooh - right! I never put that together before! Doh!

Just supposing she was a really good pilot - does that mean that after being elected she spent half her time training as a fighter pilot, or that only kick **** fighter pilots get elected? Jeez, Naboo politics just gets sillier and sillier doesn't it? No wonder they spawned the Emperor and Senator Binks.

The further assumption being that, generally speaking - a Royal Escort would be some of the best pilots you have .

So she was able to either fake it well enough to be convincingly one of the Best to any outside observer... Or competently so.

We don't have the whole story of what got her to that point - just snippets here and there... So I immediately dismiss any "conclusions" one way or the other as conjecture, given the evidence we have.

Its possible .

Either way.

Its possible .

see, we're talking about a character from the prequels

I have no idea what kind of training you're expecting Padme to do to "justify" I 4

******* Anakin sat in a ship he didn't have the faintest idea of how to fly and he won the day

Similarly, a 16 year old girl led a firefight with a tiny pistol and bulldozed her way into the Viceroy's throne-room

it's just how these things work

People who don't like women doing anything, I'd wager.

Imagine if Ciena Ree got added and she was as good as Turr or even Soontir.

The one you see in FoD is her personal N1.

Which WILL be getting a repaint from me..!

I'm actually kind of surprised she didn't get Turr's spot, as his ability would actually be a pretty good thematic match with her crew ability.

Like I said, magic!

Same!

Theres also pics out there of a blue NX1 and black N1 used by the royal guards or some such, going to repaint one into one of those.

Perhaps in a rerelease..! She deserves to fly her Starfighter, dammit.

Oh man I remember the NX1. It was so bad. But it looked so cool! I miss Battle For Naboo. What a decent game.

Woah, chillax dude! It's a bit of a leap to go from me saying "how come this career politician is a better pilot than a Jedi" to calling me sexist! Especially when the Jedi in question is a girl.

Aye, has to be done I reckon. I still want to get them properly chromed. You gonna chop off the astromech on Padmé's? She doesn't have one in the ship in Forces of Destiny. As far as I know she doesn't own one but she could easily take R2 with her.

let's be real guys, Padme must be at least a little force sensitive (especially going by her ability)

proof:

completely untrained and unconditioned 16 year old upper-body strength? not buying it

standing smack dab in the front and middle of the formation, being the first ****** target beside the two jedi, and not giving a ****

Speaking of Padmé dangling from things - when she jumped off the pillar to kick the Nexu, IRL would that have dislocated her arms?

Whoa, wasn't necessarily calling you such, but there are more extreme folks who I would- you're fine, sorry my dude!

Also hold on, she had R2, it was Ahsoka who didn't have one.

Some recent material has revealed Padme and the handmaidens were actually pretty well conditioned.

Had to be since the smoke and mirror game they played to keep her alive required all parts of it to be capable in each of the roles.

No worries :)

<rewatches> Oh yeah! So, repaint one chrome and chop the astromech off another. That's what I'll be doing I reckon. Already relocated the astromech on a few Aethersprites to turn them into 7Bs.

So basically, peace loving Naboo with its democratically elected teenage queens, had a ruler training regime reminiscent of a militaristic Ancient Greek city state. That place is messed up .
