Shame the X-34 comes partially glued together.

By Kingsguard, in Painting

Since I had made such good use of magnets with some other models, I had thought perhaps I could attach magnets to the inside of the hull so that I could attach or remove the riders on the sides of the X-34 depending on the upgrade cards I am using at the time. However, upon opening the X-34 I found the hull is already glued together so attaching magnets on the inside doesn't seem to be a viable option. Maybe I'll just have to glue everybody in after all? Anyone have any advice on the subject? Maybe I can split it open without damaging it?

I made shallow holes in the hull with a standard wood drill bit, deep enough for shallow magnets without actually going all the way through the plastic. No need to disassemble.

Hmm, I don't have much experience with drills...I might try that though.

You maybe have a millimeter to play with. You can bury bigger magnets in the figure's butts to compensate for a fairly thin low footprint magnet on the speeder body.

Plastic can tend to grab at the drill bit and it is very easy to over drill. With that said, if you have green stuff on hand, at worst the tank just took some damage.

Hasn't anyone tried to pull apart the tank yet? The AT-ST did come apart with a bit of fuss.

Alright, I got the magnets put in. Turned out fairly good. I'm happy with it though the Twilek probably could have used a larger magnet...she mostly sticks well enough....I'll post pictures once I'm finished.
