Species That Need Love

By GortharTheGamer, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Location. The planet was near where the characters were and they wanted somewhere with beaches to relax. The characters ended up paying a 1000 credits a night beach condo. The Zeltrons had high negotitian and charm so the players spent more money than they intended.

I used Zeltrons as NPCs but we avoided the whole sexpot thing.

I've had nothing but bad experiences with them.

it's always a dude who makes one and the point of the character always seems to be for erotic stimulation purposes. They never wear much more than a bra and panties and the players seem to think they are like auto-success charm person launchers. They come from some comic I believe but they have become strangely popular.

You should allow them so you can use it as canary in a coal mine. So you can avoid such

Zeltrons, by their nature , are promiscuous. So, it's not so much the player playing them "For erotic stimulation" purposes, so much as it's playing them per what the species is all about: pleasure in all its forms.

The player chose that species. "It's what my character would do!" is never an excuse, because you're the one designing and controlling that character.

Funny. I always had a problem with wookiees. The few people, regardless of their own gender, who I have seen playing a wookiee never seemed to get more out of it than a very angry raging barbarian with a serious spot of PMS thrown in there, incapable of intelligent speech at all. And those were just the Jedi-wannabes who had a serious moral standard to uphold.

Then again, look at the average art of Google image searches for " female twi'lek ". Heck, even in the movies we see Jedi Knight Aayla Secura... not wearing flowing robes or anything like that, but showing off bare belly, bound bossom, and tight, tight pants.

And judging by all that fur which is visible, do ewoks (or wookiees for that matter) even wear pants at all?

I do understand your point, however. In the old Marvel comics the zeltrons were often portrayed as free spirits, party animals to a fault, Most were indeed depicted as lithe lingerie models who wanted nothing but... well... That. To an almost comedic level, they were capable of organizing a party that evening, just to celebrate having planned a party the next day, all day long. Even their monarchs were depicted like this. The most interesting zeltron, to me at any rate, would be Dani. She had normal clothes on most of the time, professed a genuine interest in Luke Skywalker in the comics, not just some hormone driven lust, and over a couple of comic issues she really made character progress even to the point of being somewhat more down to earth (sullen even, losing her lover Kiro, being abducted and tortured by the nagai, and more such setbacks).

My guess is, that they became so popular for being such a sensual, yet light-hearted addition to Star Wars. The seriousness of a black, grey and white Empire on one side, bright purplish-pink party aliens on the other side. Colour defines a lot, which is also why I think the rebel flight suits are bright orange, deep red, or green, opposed to grey and black in the Empire all over again. In an exaggerated way, they represent the joy of life instead of oppressive existence. Freedom (including sexual one) opposing very strict moral and ethical rules. The zeltron way of life as portrayed in the comics kickstarted a lot of young (geekish/nerdish?) men into puberty, and together with average comic artwork resembling lingerie models, this made them appeal to men very overtly. Very interesting to note here, Mary Jo Duffy was a female Mervel writer and editor who was (in part) responsible for creating the zeltrons for the comics. I'm not certain she was also responsible for Jahn, Rahuhl, Bahb and Marruc, four male zeltrons who made Leia's life justa tad more complicated with their antics. Zeltrons even now still live in canon, in the name Lorica Demaris who joined the Resistance against the First Order. Perhaps due to Disney's influence here, this zeltron seems to spread pheromones that make her seem more attractive (no change here) and that calm down others (contrary to the interpretation of them arousing other species).

Yes that is true but the output is the real problem despite my description of the intentions as I perceive them. Plus is that planet any where near Hutt Space? It's a prime target for the best trafficking victims you could want.

edit: I do think that part of the problem is a player choosing this species just for the spank bank potential.

Yes, and? If a player is choosing to play a Zeltron, be it a male or female character, yes, it is likely that they want to play a sensual, fun-loving character. However, They could play that type of character without choosing Zeltron as the species. There is a reason why Zeltrons act the way they do, aside from simply liking it. They're Empaths . They feel other people's emotions as if they were their own. No one wants to feel negative emotions . As such, Zeltron society developed around pleasure.

No, Zeltros is not near Hutt Space. It's in the Inner Rim at galactic coordinates O-10 [1] near the Trellen Trade Route [2] Lesser Lantillian Route [2] and Great Kashyyyk Branch [2]

Yes, and ?

Their nature isn't the cause of the character's behavior, the player is. What you brought up is entirely besides the point.

Hence all the scantilly clad twi'leks sold into slavery as dancers and luxury objects.

No, what I brought up is exactly my point. Their nature is part of why the player would choose that species, but, it's not necessarily the only reason why a player would choose that species. And, if it is, there are other species that could fill the exact same role.

You're arguing against something I didn't say and changing your supposed point from comment to comment. I'm not engaging any further with that nonsense.

If the in-universe HoloNet is anything like our media, scantily clad Gamorreans are only a few channel clicks away...

A friend asked me to add the wish for Gamorreans to this thread. Really! Honestly! ;-)

Is your friend Miss Piggy?

He can be seen as such.

Besides... the title of the thread? Species that need love? 😂

Yeah but Zeltrons are even more loaded with sexiness. The galactic pimps and street daddies will love them some zeltrons.

On a more serious note, though...

Why do people want to play alien species? In my experience, fortunately, there are almost as many reasons as there are people wanting to play alien species in a game. However, a couple of reasons stand out, as I have seen over the years of roleplaying. (Warning: personal experience and opinion incoming. Your Mileage May Vary!)

The first reason (in no particular order) that stands out, is the species' statistics. In a minor, or even major way related to powergaming, or at least gaming the rules system, the player chooses a species (race in most fantasy systems) not for any social appeal or because it looks cool. It is sheer numbers. If it has better modifiers/abilities/special powers/etc some players are more inclined to pick the species over another. For years, many people have considered elves in Dungeons and Dragons to be superior to the other races. The only humans seen at some tables were human simply because the character class, like Paladin, demanded that. Progression through the editions has made humans and other races more viable, but elves are still rather good. In Star Wars, a wookiee is another example of an alien species easily seen for its numericals. High Brawn. Even more damage output in melee when hurt. Bunch of wounds to stay in the fight. Hardly ever saw a wookiee doctor or scientist. Marauders and raging Jedi primarily.

Another reason why people tend to play a specific alien race is its gimmick. Not necessarily good stats, mind you. Its gimmick. Twi'lek females almost universally have voluptuous bodies of fit dancers and a certain type of performance. Not unlike zeltrons, though the wider range of skin colouration and the lekku tend to make twi'leks even more alien, hence more exotic, and therefore more likely to be chosen. Sometimes for all the wrong reasons even. Extremely wrong board to mention, but in a Star Trek game I once saw a player who wanted to play a Bolian. Their metabolism allows them to subsist on foodstuffs many others find revulsing, like rotten eggs and the likes. Turned out the player had a kindergarten like mindset, for the main focus was on fart jokes and a rather embarrasing scene where the player tried to imitate a jet fighter while the character was in a 0-G environment. the jokes wore thin fast.

And a very typical reason, the one I relate to most, is to choose a species and to really go to town breaking expectations. Playing a zeltron that struggles with the fact he excretes pheromones, and tries not to succumb to his own feelings and those of others. Playing a wookiee that turns to the Jedi path to control her rage. In Legends, there is this Gamorrean that joined Rogue squadron as a fighter pilot. That sort of thing.

I will echo the sentiment of players choosing species for their numbers. I think high agility species are generally favored because most combat skills and the piloting skills are linked to this skill.

My ever shrinking wish list (in no particular order. Despite being numbered).

1. Arkanian (Offshoot)
2. Miraluka
3. Jawa
4. Neti
5. Besalisk
6. Kaleesh
7. Zeltron
8. Togorian
9. Verpine
10. Echani
11. Whipid
12. Feeorin
13. Lurmen
14. Ugnaught
15. Gungan
Secret Item: Sith Pureblood

For the record I am a big fan of the Legacy Era and I thought Deliah Blue was a fun character. So that's why Zeltrons appear on my list. And if you wanted to see a Zeltron not defined by their species, check out Demagol from the Legends KOTOR comic

In this game it really matters very little what a species has for starting characteristics as the starting XP, which is so often spent entirely on characteristics, balances out so that most species have identical potentials. I can build most species to have at least a 4 in any characteristic from the start, and nobody can exceed a 5, so the differences are very minor.

Selkath, Abednedo, Rattataki, Sith, Cathar, Noghri, Rakatan.

I'm thinking that a Zeltron character is a good thing for the GM to be able to mess with because of all the unwanted attention they will garner. Since they have this love of all sensual pleasure then they have ready made extra obligation right there. Every Zeltron should have Addiction: Hedonism (or whatever best fits them I admit I had the Empire blow up their planet in my version of the galaxy and didn't read up on them much)
