The FlyCasual Boasting Thread!

By ClassicalMoser, in X-Wing

I tried it for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised! I mean sure, the AI could use some improvement, but when you want to try wacky synergy or combos, this tool can actually narrow down what works and what does not... because if it does not work against the AI then you know you still have some work to do on your list :)

If you want a real challenge for your list, try a few games againts Drea + 3 Loks with dorsal turret and VTG. The AI is excellent for that list and the double tap is realy effective.

Yes, I am sure that I will have to bring my top game to beat those.

Just tried to play against 4 fangs: Kad solus, 2 skulls with crack shot and a zealot recruit. Got completely drowned by them. You just have to pick a good setup without any complicated links between cards to get a good challenge I think.

For those of us who don't have enough friends in the game or a good local scene, or who just want to get better at flying, Sandrem has done the incredible work of making a PC emulator in FlyCasual.

And for those of us who have a strong competitive streak, playing against an AI is missing some sense of personal fulfillment. After all, what's the good of pulling out that fantastic victory if you can't go bragging about it?

For this reason, I hereby introduce the FlyCasual Boasting Thread!

Two main entry forms come to mind:

1. "I beat 5 Cartel Marauders with [____]!"

2. "My list 200 point list was able to beat [x number of] Cartel Marauders/Blue Squadron X-Wings!"

Include a Screenshot of your achievement if at all possible (pics or it didn't happen).

Let the boasting commence!

Interestingly I have been getting a lot of 5 cartel marauders lately. I have beaten it a few times with Obi, Ahsoka, Wolffe. Also, last night I beat it witha scum list with Han, Kavil, and Old Teroch. I was down to Old Teroch on one or two hull and there were three marauders left all with 2 hull. I was able to maneuver and arc dodge well enough to pick them off while only one of them at a time got a shot at me.

Gavin, Jake, and a Rogue squadron pilot smash them too.

I had a really funny time with the marauders with Tavson, Recoil, and Quickdraw. I was down to Tavson and Recoil and one marauder left. Tavson had Cpt. Phasma and the marauder and Tavson were faced into each other and Recoil was just bumping into Tavson out of the marauder's arc. I have only ever seen the computer do a 1 forward to remove stress so it kept bumping into Tavson each round after Phasma would stress it. I just made Tavson and Recoil bump continually until Recoil killed the marauder. It took about 5 rounds because my dice were so bad on Recoil. It was a super cheesy way to win but it was really funny to see as well.

The AI have indeed better results with simple combos but in the case of Drea + 3 loks, the AI act mostly like what a real player would do (get ships in arc and take a focus) and have a lot of health. If you can beat that list without loosing a single ship, you can certainly bring your list to a tournament. :)

If the chalenge is too easy, you can remove the Squadron points cap and add a few Marauders in the enemy list. Try 8 marauders, that's good training.

My Cygnus Spaceworks squad versus 5 Cartel Marauders:

CygnusVsMarauders.jpg

I ended up losing Jendo, but easy win nevertheless.

Same squad versus Drea + Lok with Dorsal and VTG:

CygnusVsDreaLoks.jpg

Much harder. Lost 2 gunboats, and almost all of them.
Jendon happened to be a great diversion for the Loks and Drea, that shot at him instead of at the gunboats. Jendon got the grace shot on the killed the last Lok Revenant.

My squad was Jendon with Death Troopers, Ruthless, and Jamming Beam, with 3 Nu gunboats with Proton torpedoes, FCS, OS-1, and AdvSLAM each.

I will try next against B-wings!

Edit:

Lost one gunboat and Jendon but won versus 4x Blade with Crackshot and Shield Upgrade.

Great job, try against 5 of those blades, 5 was my limit, I couldn’t beat 6, at least with imperial aces

I was obliterated with 6. But 5 was doable, although I lost in my only try when it came to be the last of my gunboats with 2 hull against the last of their b-wings with 4 hull. They have higher initiative and rolled lots of paint. :D

Boom, 1st try!

But my word, it was difficult!

I think without- A) Echo, and B) Something to draw fire from Echo- I'd have no chance.

Later .

This has inspired my boy, who is now willing to play against this list again. Been given a royal asskicking from 304pt Scum and am now paused in the middle of running from 270pt Republic.

Not sure I'm liking this development....

Awesome man, I’ll probably try again tonight or tomorrow. It’s so many arcs lol, good challenge

Just got done beating :

b-wing - Blade Squadron Vet. x 3
y-wing - Gold Squadron Vet. / autoblaster turret x 3

Nice way to test if you list can handle some kind of rebel beef.
It's like a DPS check : you wanna see if you can deal enough damage in as few rounds as possible to make it past and win. And the AI only has to slowly turn as much arcs as possible toward you and try to get you eventually.

So I've had this really janky list idea since 2e first came out and I haven't been totally sure how it would play out on the table. If this is any indication, it can do really well . And I'm not even that good of a flyer.

Beef Jerky - 196 Points

Saw Gerrera - 67

Juke, Leia, Perceptive Copilot, Pivot Wing

Wulfwarro - 74

Juke, Jyn Erso, Perceptive Copilot, Hull Upgrade

Kullbee Sperado - 55

Juke, R4 Astromech, Servomotor S-Foils

Well, it beat 5 cartel marauders... very easily. The thing has both tank and punch like hardly any lists I've seen. 5CM really bored me with it. Besides, the real boogeyman for this list is everything above I4. The trouble is that FlyCasual doesn't do any repositioning, so it's hard to know how to practice against ace-like targets. In an effort to split the difference, I set myself up against 4 quality scum aces, all with Fearless and nothing more: Fenn, Teroch, Talonbane, and Boba Fett, for a total of 272 points of kick-you-in-the-face.

First time through I accidentally skipped a couple of attacks (program doesn't have a stupid "undo" button 😛 ) Here was the approach first time. Developed a more nuanced way to play it afterward.

LGTM2QR.jpg

Second time through I won with all 3 ships left, only losing half points on two of them.

isrPE4P.jpg

It's a super crazy list but it's just so much freaking fun to fly . It's maneuver choice, range control, blocking, and (if Kullbee makes it to the end against I4 or less) some serious ace play when you're lucky.

What's more fun is that it knocks the enemy down to the curb and then kicks them in the teeth. As you start hurting, you just fight harder and harder. It's counterintuitive in that you'll often be saving your evade tokens for the attack in the case of Saw and Wulf. They want to take damage before shooting back sometimes because it gives them an extra die and re-roll, plus they can focus their attack for double mods and take away an evade from the opponent (who may already have spent his focus on attack).

Man, I need to get this thing on a real table. It's why I bought my Auzituck in the first place (who needs Lowie when you have WULFFWARRO).

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT I ACTUALLY PULLED IT OFF!

6 B-Wings!

Trickiest thing against this list is that Beef Jerky can't quite alpha a B-Wing off before it shoots back. The initial joust is a heavy-duty trading game where you want to come out just a little behind. You'll make up for it in the late game. I missed the screenshot of the actual engage but I caught a B at R1 with all three and took him down to 2 hull. Next turn:

sn1QTAa.jpg

Turns on Wulff's abilities and gets close on Saw, in exchange for all but one hull of 2 Bs.

O8yhlUE.jpg

That's a lot of enemy ships. I made a dumb mistake and lost Kullbee because he used a focus he didn't need to. Trades get better and Wulff ramps up until he's demolishing 4-5 HP per turn just by himself.

N8PP521.jpg

Saw kicks in and starts knocking things out too until we're down to 1-hull Saw and Wulf vs 3- and 5-health B-Wings.

ZVHu8TI.jpg

I have to Initiative kill the one that has a shot for two turns. Passive reroll and token stack give me this from Wulf:

vJpmYBW.jpg

So now it's down to 1-health Wulff and Saw vs one 3-hull B-Wing, and looking very much in my favor. Saw swoops around the rock and Wulff catches him in side arc for the final win.

MQhOAYG.jpg

I just can't express what a joy this list is to fly. It's crazy. I've never done anything like this before. We're talking 6 B-Wings! That's 48 health vs 25 and 18 attack vs 9!

I might just be getting better, but it's such an enjoyable process.

Seriously, try this list.

Final score: 71/196 vs 0/246

Large bases make bullseye cake and poor maneuverability and firepower give some good ways for you to make it out alive.

That's a lot to take down though.
