Endless Vigil does not list "Schematic" as an option for using advantage during lightsaber crafting. Does anyone know if this was errata'd or if it was intentional?
Lightsaber Schematics

I’m pretty sure it’s intentional since each lightsaber is a one-of-a-kind weapon, custom to the individual who crafted it. As such, no two are ever exactly alike.

yes. Sam Stewart has said so
I don't usually see Tramps posts unless someone quotes them, but in regards to no two lightsabers being exactly alike, the counter-example would be the mass-produced spinning helicopter lightsabers of the Inquisitorius.

Man that is a good point. I hate those things but I didn't think about how they are essentially issued gear, which to me is even worse. lol man.

Not really, as if you look at the individual aesthetics, each one of them has a different appearance from the others, so they're not exactly "mass produced." They might not go searching for crystals in the same way that a Jedi would (simply being handed them by their superiors vs. questing for them), but the hilts aren't all the exact same cookie-cutter design.
Besides, if you're going to argue that the Inquisitors' sabers are "functionally identical," then you'd have to do the same for Jedi lightsabers, as they are all "functionally identical" in terms of how they work, and yet each one is treated as being an individual piece of personalized art.

I didn't notice that before. I think those things are abominable though. Can any lightsaber be used as a helicopter blade for flying, or does it have to be one of those Inquisitor models?

Inquisitor models only, this is mentioned in DOR.
But on templates for lightsabers, wouldn't the younglings all have mass produced (training) lightsabers rather than trusting a 5 year old to built a weapon.

I think it's mostly Legends at this point, but it used to be that Jedi initiates/younglings got their training 'sabers from a collection of pre-built 'sabers that Jedi artisans had crafted over the centuries. And while they might not have as much individuality as a lightsaber that a Padawan had built themselves, they weren't exactly mass produced. If anything, it was akin to purchasing from an Etsy seller; yes that seller's items might follow a similar pattern and design, but they're not mass-produced.

Star Wars Etsy. I may have to add that to my games.

When it comes to helicopter blade lightsabers the Emperor has no clothes. Very obviously something from a kids cartoon show that was accepted by the larger fanbase as commonplace awesome, but is actually damaging to the IP as a serious setting. To me it's right up there with Jar Jar, Chewbacca having a speech impediment in the Zahn book, and ewok bounty hunters. One wonders how ridiculous you have to go with a concept before it is actually considered a silly idea and not just kewl.

To a degree. The basic components and how they work together is the same though. It's not unlike custom computers. If you and I both build a computer, they won't be the same computer. But the basic principles are the same. They both have a motherboard, a processor, a graphics card, a power supply, a structure or case to contain them, cables connecting various pieces, etc. And those parts all need to connect together in the same way to function. It's not like you and I actually build the processors and fans ourselves. The biggest differences will be in the quality of parts we use, the case, and the underlying power of the components.
Lightsabers would be no different really. They have parts that serve certain functions. You can find schematics all over the place online that describe the various parts of the lightsaber. Sure, the cases (handles/hilts) all look different, but the internal components, placement, and set up are all going to be roughly equivalent and interchangeable with one another. Each Jedi isn't reinventing the wheel, they are just putting their own flourish on their construction. Much like someone picking a fancy case, or case fans with led lights, or sticks of ram that have cooling fins, or using liquid cooling.
There is no reason they couldn't mass produce the things and hand them out. In fact, that is what happened in a way. Younglings used training lightsabers. These were not made by the younglings, but produced by some other source, for use by young kids training to be jedi. Younglings used them until they went through the gathering where they built their own.

Chewbacca didn't have the speech impediment; he spoke as Wookiees do. Another Wookiee had a speech impediment that made it unable to speak like a Wookiee but strangely fully able to pronounce Basic.

Ah thanks I read the part of that book I got through before I chucked it a long time ago. That's almost as bad as the author was just trying to take a short cut for the purpose of having dialogue and making it easy to accomplish. I got it mixed up but remember the image of a wookiee speaking the Queen's English and being disgusted. The Christmas Special may be the birthplace of some of the worst SW content but the EU was the fermentation tank.

well that and game balance. As making a lightsaber an easy check so you can get a ton of advantage and potentially triumphs on a lightsaber would probably be game breaking. As they are already really bad *** weapons. So the Devs wanting to nip that issue in the bud is wise.

It's even weirder. The Wookiee in question couldn't speak Basic, but due to a speech impediment, their Shyriiwook was more easily understood by those not fluent. It was still just an excuse to have a Wookiee with normal written dialogue in the book, and sure was silly.

Where is that facepalm gif when I need it lol. Thanks for clarifying this as I only read part of the book and it was around when it came out. There were other things in that book that made me think the standards of oversight from lucasfilm were low in that period of time. As I remember it was kind of more of a sci fi approach with force negating iguanas and some crazed clone of a dark jedi who had an extra U in his name from the original. No it's not Jar Jar Binks, it's Jaar Jar Binks!
