Few Questions about Overlord play for a new player

By WarRealm, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Just played the game again today for the first time in years

Have a few questions since I always play the overlord

1) In one turn, if I had the tokens, could I play a RAGE and CHARGE on the same monster?

2) If a large creature has to try to get out of the LAST room in the Intro Scenario, the one with the giant, how the heck does he cross the pit. Does he try to jump for 3 movement, which uses 3 of his movement and still puts part of his base on the pit, or are they stuck in the last room?

3) Can spiders range attack with a spit or something since their attack has the sorcery symbol?

4) Runes are like weapons right? They are not slotted or anything. They have hands so I assume they are equiped.

5) Can a hero run in a turn and use those points to say move 5, drink a potion then open a door?

6) As the overlord, I have to draw cards first then decide if I want to discard correct?

7) Dodging allows rerolls for creatures, just like heroes if I play a dodge card right? The creature does not simply get missed. I have to force or not force the player to reroll

8) If a giant attacks players next to him, but a creature is also next to him, since he has sweep he could kill the creature as well since a sweep hits everyone adjacent to him

9) Creatures with just melee symbol listed cannot fight ranged I take it

1.) No, because the activation of a monster is the trigger and you cant use the same trigger for two cards.

2.) Pits don't affect Monster larger than one space unless the move completely into one

3.) maybe some kind of magical poison :P i'd just accept the fact he can because he can...

4.) Runes are not always Weapons, the Item Card will state what it is (Weapon: Rune or Other: Rune etc.)

5.) Yes, all movement actions

6.) Correct if you discarded them because of your handlimit of 8, and you get the threat for discarded Cards

7.) Correct, the Overlordcard "Dodge" allows you to force rerolls against one attack, Heroes with the Dodge order may force one reroll each time the get attacked in the OLs turn.

8.) Sweep only affects enemy figures

9.) Yes

1) In one turn, if I had the tokens, could I play a RAGE and CHARGE on the same monster?

Definitely

2) If a large creature has to try to get out of the LAST room in the Intro Scenario, the one with the giant, how the heck does he cross the pit. Does he try to jump for 3 movement, which uses 3 of his movement and still puts part of his base on the pit, or are they stuck in the last room?

He ignores the pit. Check the FAQ in Descent's support section for how large creatures interact with terrain.

3) Can spiders range attack with a spit or something since their attack has the sorcery symbol?

Yes.

4) Runes are like weapons right? They are not slotted or anything. They have hands so I assume they are equiped.

Yep.

5) Can a hero run in a turn and use those points to say move 5, drink a potion then open a door?

Yep

6) As the overlord, I have to draw cards first then decide if I want to discard correct?

You can discard cards for threat at any time. If, after drawing at the start of your turn, you have more than 8 cards you have to immediately discard down (gaining threat as normal).

7) Dodging allows rerolls for creatures, just like heroes if I play a dodge card right? The creature does not simply get missed. I have to force or not force the player to reroll

Correct.

8) If a giant attacks players next to him, but a creature is also next to him, since he has sweep he could kill the creature as well since a sweep hits everyone adjacent to him

Sweep specifies that it attacks enemy figures, not all adjacent spaces.

9) Creatures with just melee symbol listed cannot fight ranged I take it

Correct

No.

Descent JITD Rulebook, page 11, Event Cards : "Important: Only one event card may be played per triggering condition."

Charge: " Play when you activate a monster . Double the monster's speed for this activation."

Rage: " Play when you activate a monster . The monster may attack twice during this activation (four times if it has Quick Shot)."

Thanks for all the answers everyone. That helps, and I just now realized that there was an FAQ I need to print out ASAP

I have one of the first versions of the game, like when it was just released at GenCon way back so I got a copy that was short one of the monsters

Has the rulebook been updated online or is it the same?

Never noticed that. Thanks.

I believe the rulebook has been updated, but I think the one online is the older one. Either way, the rulebook + FAQ is all you really need. There's a *really* good custom rulebook that combines all the FAQ rulings into one, easy-to-use booklet over on BGG that I use. The author is working on an RtL version of this rulebook too.
