True Story

By plebeianmaw, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I love this game. Unfortunately, I can't find any local competition. I posted something on here, and even talked to the local game shop about starting play nights for aGoT. All responses and interests have fizzled. I feel like a total loser just playing against myself and drooling over the card art as I reconstruct and reconstruct different house decks. Considering other people are buying the packs at the game shop, there must be others doing the same as myself. Unless.. I might be the loser kid that everyone avoids somehow.

What should I do with myself?

What area are you from? There might be other players in the area that you have not heard of yet.

Will the store owner let you play at the store? Can you take it upon yourself to start doing demos and get people into the game? If the store qower starts to see people playing the game s/he might be willing to start hosting events, or allowing events to take place.

Just a few ideas.

To play for right now, try OCTGN.

For the long run, keep trying what JJ suggested. I was in the same situation, but just recently ran into some people who have been playing the game. With their help we've done some demos and generated more interest.

Good, there is hope.

My area is Cincinnati, and the board game shop wants to start hosting LCG tournaments very badly aGoT at the top of the list.

I would be hella-willing to demo it and all that, I just can't find a single player. The store has open gaming tables and event's going on all day and night, so it's a great environment to grow the interest. Just finding that one other contender. The shop said if I can find 4, they'll start hosting tournament nights for it.

I'm considering maybe a large sky light. Like the bat-signal, but with the different house emblems of aGoT. Perhaps someone will hear my call.

You know, I tried to DL that program and just couldn't get it. I use firefox and have windows xp if that matters. Maybe I was using the wrong links or something. Does it require leet hacking skills to get it running?

Yeah gui%C3%B1o.gif Use Internet Explorer (just this one time - gods will forgive you) as it requires some .NET technology - it should be downloaded if you click install.

there used to be a thriving meta in the Natti, they even hosted a regional. I believe one of their Ring leader's names on the forums was King of the Salt Wives.

Another idea. Ask the store manager/clerks if they know who the people are who are buying the packs and if they can forward some of your info to those persons.

FYI this weekend I got an update to OCTGN requiring .NET v4.0 and some other OCTGN changes to the database store. In the end I had to reinstall my game/sets in OCTGN and moved my decks over to the new store folder it created. It was pretty simple and explained as I went, but required some additional steps to get it to work again.

I just moved to Cincinnati and just recently got into AGoT:LCG (and have some CoC:LCG too). You still looking for players?

I'd recommend private messaging him and adding as a friend to contact him. Its been a while since he posted this thread.

If you know the store owner perhaps he'd be willing to ask anyone else who buys the packs if they would like to leave their email for you or you could leave your email for them.

You could also just setup a time to do a demo and see who shows up.

Lastly, a PLEAD to FFG to get their Tourney Schedule up and running again!!!

I wouldn't have met 1/2 of the players in Seattle if it wasn't for that - people who would have never came together for a game. I might have dropped the game if it wasn't for seeing that there were other players in Seattle and getting to know them.

I can't stress enough how much just an easy tourney scheduling system that everyone can see online would help...

Yes, I second that, FFG. Please oh please add a get us a tourney listing and search!

Yeah, not every store has a fanatical GoT player as both owner and promoter. Plus, tournament listing promote not just the game, but the venue as well, and we love free "advertising."

Stay tuned. things are afoot.

Yeah man, I'm here and our tiny little Meta is very much looking forward to adding some players to the roster. Well.. two of us are still super burned out after Gencon, but speaking for myself, I'm ready to dive back in. Thursdays at Yottaquest are actually LCG night, where we all met up and the Cinci Meta was formed, but we stopped going recently because well, we happened to be the only attendants. But, perhaps we could arrange a Thursday to meet there.

email me at [email protected]. (these forums fail at mailing) We'll arrange a time.

Hey! I live in Cincinnati and just recently got into AGoT. I'm up at Yottaquest on a regular basis to satisfy my boardgame addiction. I've loved the books for so long and my girlfriend and I decided to pick up the LCG on a whim...

Best impulse game purchase in recent memory.

I've got a group of friends who play for the moment. All of them, except for one, pretty much look to me to do the major purchases. While it's great to sate the need to play, I find myself winning more often than not with the core sets and want to delve into the chapter packs/competitive play a bit more.

Admittedly, I am pretty much a n00b when it comes to the game. I did just pick it up a few weeks ago. I have the core set and the Lords of Winter expansion. I plan on picking up the LotS and PotS deluxe expansions within the week.

Got room for another player that you can beat up on for a while? :D
