An upgraded Dynamic Class Freighter... my PCs love it!
Anyone's Party NOT flying a YT-1300?
Knowing that my guys were greedy treasure-trolls I really tried to sell the "Wayfarer Class" medium transport. They wouldn't bite and went with the YT.
The buyers remorse is starting to set in and I'm going to make it a real pain for them to walk across the Plains of Dantooine on foot.
"Roll initiative..."

I would've Home-brewed something using AD&D rules.

I used a modified Traveller to run Star Wars. Psionics was converted into Force powers and I had to make adjustments to ship construction regarding Traveller's jump drive to allow building of hyperspace-capable starfighter-sized craft (not possible in vanilla Traveller).
We go about 50% between a completely made-up ship that was not designed and built by CEC, and something existing but not a YT-1300. It's a big galaxy so to me there should be a ton of models of ships out there, not just those that have been made into toys and models. Having said that I wouldn't be unhappy if someone wanted a YT-1300, but it's never come up.
The game advantage of the YT-1300 and other popular ships is that there is typically an easy access to a good deck plan.

In my campaign they're also less recognizable and easier to get false IDs for because they're so common.
One of my old groups used a Lancer -class Pursuit Craft - fast, decent weapons, could carry our whole party (plus two if needed), and it isn't super obscure.
My Rebel players were using a YT-2400 they "acquired".
They have all since been promoted by the Rebellion (Contribution Rank 5 now) and the Rebellion allowed them to build a custom corvette to use as a base. Their 'vette was built on Xorm (just before I ran a modified Friends Like These) with the help of Quarrie.
They now have the 'vette, and crew, the YT-2400 as a run about, and 2nd prototype B-Wing as an escort fighter and monitor Imperial activity in the Freestanding subsector.
The campaign is currently about 6 months before Rouge One...things are going to get interesting...
In WEG days, my group would hoon around in a YT-2400. In the 2 FFG games I have been in, the first group had a GHTROC 720 and in my current group, we have a GX1 Short Hauler. After seeing the pot plants on the floor plan, I fell in love with the space bus.
My current crew use a YT-2400, previous group used a VCX-100 purely because there was 6 of them and they needed space.
Previous groups have have a Firespray and HWK used together, and some fighters but only used a YT-1300 briefly in an escape mission
None of my players want a -1300.
They have access to a YT-2400 but primarly use (and love) their VCX-100. They also just picked up a Shethopod shuttle that they are trying to get spaceworthy. I should probably finish watching Rebels . . .

I turned one of the rear holds into a lightsaber construction workshop, another into a library/briefing room (uses the rules for the Databanks from the Crucible , in DoH, and Briefing Auditorium attachment), and the central rear hold was turned into a lightsaber training dojo.
In the same campaign my starting character (a pantaron racer with 4 agility 3 cunning 3 presence and 2's in everything else) Aris Renn is the captain of a kst-100 named the Astral Wren. I have a policy of not flying a ship with a base speed less than 4 so that I'll be able to add high output ion turbines to get the speed up to 5 to be as fast as a tie fighter.
Edited by EliasWindriderMy boys started with a junked up Gozanti they found in the first mission of One Shot First.

Traveller? Maybe Space Opera? I'm pretty sure there were other sci-fi RPGs at the time. Not officially licensed, of course, but I'm sure plenty of people played Star Wars campaigns before the d6 rpg.
Edit: I was right, Traveller. I'm very curious about how that campaign went, given how many elements of the Star Wars Universe came from WEG. I always like to know about alternate versions of Star Wars.

Ah, Traveler. The first RPG where your character could die before you even got to play.

With certain GMs, that was possible long before Traveller. Traveller just gave you the possibility of rolling out of it.
My group uses a G-9 Rigger that they stole from the Hurt Cartel

Did they hope that it was the one ship in the lot that the Hutts would miss the least?

Most of the other ships belonged to bounty hunters on the Hutt's payroll or were old and busted.

By the stats, most other ships, old and busted or not, are still better than the G-9. It's like an anti-powergamer put it to paper.
Yeah, I concur.
If there's a "safe" ship to steal from a Hutt it would be the G9 Rigger.
"They stole what? Okay. Good. Nice. I've been trying to give that piece of garbage away. Now I can put that space to better use."

Ouch that's a painful ship to own
I'm just starting my third campaign as GM. In both the previous games, the PCs had a YT-2000 (I really enjoyed X-Wing: Alliance back in the day, I've been a YT-2000 fanboy ever since). This time, they're getting a VCX-100 as their starting ship - but because I'm a sadist, and I'm starting them with Escape from Mos Shuuta, the first thing that happens in the game will be their VCX getting stolen right off the pad, with a load of Teemo's merchandise and their payment for delivering it on board, so they'll have to hijack the Krayt Fang to escape.
