Gear and Gadtes

Well crap. There goes more money. I thought they might be tapped out but this looks great.

Well, if this is indicative of the trend for most RPG companies of only putting out compilation books with a modicum of new material when they're intending to retire the line, then there's probably not too many more sourcebooks in the hopper for this iteration of the Star Wars RPG.

As for what comes next (RPG line left to lie fallow or FFG is working on a revised/second edition) is up for debate.

The compendium books we haven't got yet would be:

Starships and Vehicles. All the stuff from the line books plus the few missing from the movies and cartoons, FFGs creations (Raider, Decimator), Iconic ships (Millenium Falcon, Slave I, Executor), modifications and rewoked crafting rules should be able to be crammed into a 144 page book.

Species. All the ones from the line books rewritten to fit one page each should leave enough space for 30 new ones in a 144 page book.

Career Specialization compendium. I doubt we would get this one because a single Specialization covers three pages so collecting all 100+ would require a book as fat as a Core Rulebook. The starship and species books can be enjoyed for the lore but this book would be almost 100% reprinted rules crunch.

Atlas of the Galaxy. A book with only black, single page descriptions of planets. Maybe FFG would write it. I would buy it just for lore.

A Sequel Era book will certainly be done next year.

Just pre-ordered G&G at my FLGS. They told me it will be arriving in June. Don't know how accurate their info is but, after the Rise of the Seperatists delay, this gives me hope.

They could do a Career Compendium for each of the three lines, maybe sneak Force Powers into the F&D one?

Yeah. The problem is I dont think it would sell that well. As the Career books are a better value. You get gear, GM Advice, signature abilities, special rules and so on. THat would all be dropped in a compendium book. The only one I could see is a Jedi Career book that added 2 specs had the current ones for the clone wars books plus appropriate gear. Maybe nip the lightsaber construction rules and gm advice for running Jedi including era advice. I think that would actually sell. You could do the same for the clones career but I doubt it would have as much appeal as it is more niche.

A book collecting all of the specializations seems like a bad idea to me since I can freely get all of these in pdf form from various members of this forum. Besides that, it would further devalue the career splats that already exist.

Yeah, a compendium for careers feels unlikely - whereas a "Vehicles & Vessels" book is almost certainly on the cards next. Like with gear and NPCs, there's plenty of content to fill out a book that already exists but also plenty of scope to add new content.

If we get a vehicles and vessels book I'd like them to have rules included to improve vehicle combat or racing.

Yes to all of this. I also wouldn't mind a "Creatures of the Galaxy" type compendium as well. I know there are a few in Allies but a collection of many beasties from around the galaxy would be a nice addition.

Maybe a book bringing all crafting stuff together? *edit here*

Actually forget a crafting book. How about a book that covers all the extra stuff? So Crafting, Base building (Desperate Allies), Homestead stuff (Far Horizons) etc.

My FLGS says it's flagged for beginning of July so fingers crossed.

Bump due to excite?

I hope there are some Geonosian beam weapons, force pikes, sonic weapons, etc, in here. Geos need more love.

Legendary items like Han's Blaster look like fun. Either a special reward at the end of a campaign, or something to aim for with your own modifications.

I'm half looking forward to this book and half dreading it because of all of the mary-sue special gear that players couldn't have with existing gear.

Yeah, that's a bit of concern on my end as well. Granted, the folks I usually game with aren't the type to go seeking ways to replicate these sorts of "special snowflake" equipment.

Then again, I suppose FFG needs to pack the book with something to draw in folks who've already purchased all the other books and don't mind having to book dive to look up specifics on any given piece of gear.

The problem is that a compendium of gear with background info, crafting rules, new mods/attachments and new weapons/armor would more than make for a good book. The unique gear detracts from the book as far as I'm concerned. The only example page I've seen shows that 1/4 of the book is going to be nearly worthless.

Anyone can craft unique items, players do it all the time. Give us more options in a compiled location is good. Giving us stats for every special characters weapons is nearly pointless and just a waste of space.

Yeah, the crafting rules do already provide a way for PCs to make their own "signature items," be it blasters, armor, droids, or lightsabers.

Probably be too much to hope that the crafting rules (perhaps updated and tidied up a bit) would make another appearance in this book though.
