Some questions from a new player

By Murdoc2, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Ok, most of the rules are pretty easy to get, mostly thanks to really awesome and throughout rulebook.

But here are some things I don't quite understand:

1) Closing and sealing gates with monsters in the location

During my movement phase I return to Arkham from Other World and (as the rulebook says) I don't have to fight or evate a monster. Next is Arkham Encounters phase in which I can close and seal the gate. So what happens to a monster when I close and then seal the gate?? Is he automately returned to the cup? Can I keep him as reward? Or does he stay on the location even when it was sealed?

2) When on some cards it says for example "while in Easttown streets you may" or "place activity at Uptown streets" does it mean I can do those things only in the street area or can do it also in the locations in a given street area?

Same thing with monsters. Sometimes a card says "2 monsters appear in the French Hill streets". In this case do i put those 2 monsters in the street area or in the locations?

3) Unique items like 'Ruby of R'lyeh'

Are they ever discarded? Because Ruby of R;lyeh says "Movement: You get 3 extra movement points". Does it mean I can use this card only once and then discard it? Or can I use it in every movement phase for the rest of the game? If so, this card is really more like a skill card which gives me constant +3 movement.

4) Example: I wat to do something in Historical Society and there is a monster in this location. I end my movement in Historical Society.. do I have to evade or fight the monster now? Because in the rulebook it says I need to, when I am leaving the area. So do I deal with the monster now, or on the next turn when I want to leave Historical Society??

This is it.. for now.

Thanks ;)

The monster is only returned to the cup if its symbol matches that on the closed gate. You can house-rule that all monsters on a closing gate's location are removed, but I feel that that takes away some of the fun tension.

Easttown Streets means exactly that: the street space. Ordinarily an activity token is placed on just one space to remind you that that activity can be performed only on that one space.

If it doesn't say "discard" then you don't discard it. Ruby of R'lyeh is pretty great. You can use its power every turn. No wonder it costs $8!

You also have to deal with monsters on the board when you end your movement on their spaces. So yes, you deal with the monster during the movement phase. If you evade it and remain there for a turn, and next turn you don't move anywhere, you have to deal with it again, because you are still "ending your movement" in that space.

Thank you for claryfying this ;)

One more question: If I go to Science Building, where I can spend 1 gate token to get 2 clues, can I spend more than one gate trophy in one AE turn??

No: to use Dissection multiple times requires multiple turns.

I am a beginner also, so this topic is helping me as well.. gui%C3%B1o.gif
