Brace for (Possible) Impact - SSD Delay?

By Mon Cala Blue, in Star Wars: Armada

Firstly, I would like to say that I do not have inside information and that this post is conjecture on my part, but, I thought it important to bring to people's attention.

I am a fan of tabletop gaming in general and am an avid collector, player and fan of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. Today Games Workshop announced that they upcoming Sylvaneth battletome was being delayed by an unforseeable number of months due to a 'bilateral trade' issue that has resulted in an import delay. Their entertaining and honest explanation for this can be found here: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/05/08/a-late-bloom-for-the-sylvaneth/

I am unsure if this is a BREXIT related issue, but I suspect it is more likely related to broader world trade tensions with China. The reason for this being is that Games Workshop produces the vast majority of its models, with the exception of some scenery pieces, in the United Kingdom, while other products such as battletomes, dice, etc. are produced in China. Furthermore, Games Workshop's most recent gaming magazine talks about another one of their unreleased products as having been released the previous month.

I should note Games Workshop probably felt obliged to get out in front of this issue due to leaks of the finished Battletome and new dice, spells and scenery appearing online yesterday.

Now, as many of you are aware, FFG Armada miniatures are produced in China which means a similar delay could be in store for us.

Again, this is conjecture on my part but I thought I would put it forward given how notorious FFG has been in the past for communicating delays and the fact that this particular product has already seen multiple delays and still has no firm release date.

If this were true would that not mean the both Legion and X-wing would have the same delays. But as they don’t seem too so hopefully we won’t either.

I don’t know about a delay, but I’m certainly anticipating a price increase. Probably about a 25% increase. Protectionism is really a pain.

Yes, Americans especially need to remember that "tariff" always means "extra costs to be ultimately incurred by the consumer."

Whaaat? Increasing what we charge people means we have to pay more so that they can recoup thier losses? Why would they do that? They should just take those losses...

I would expect about 73% of products to make a strangly, 25% increase in the coming months.

Don't forget that the import ban may be about quantity, not only quality. Instead of saying that you can't import plastic models they may say that you can't import more than 100 plastic models per year. So it is technically possible that X-Wing and Legion, being the most lucrative in FFGs disposal at the moment, may get a preferential treatment and their expansions will be the ones imported and Armada expansions may have to wait in the line.

Ugh. 😞

Worryingly plausible.

Legit question: I’m assuming pre-ordering insures you against price hikes? Or at least that's what I’m hoping...

Generally.

It can vary on jurisdiction, but if your pre order also included payment, then you’re usually covered.

Also: It May matter, but The tarrifs only apply to things that are sent as of Today.

Things literally already “on the boat” or otherwise in the transit system - like caught up in customs somewhere on the receiving end - aren’t applicable to it.
