idea for the BEGGAR

By darthmax1, in Talisman Home Brews

havent thought it out much at all

lets see

str 2

crf 5

gold 3

fate 0

alignment neutral

start city

you may never have , collect, or use fate. it has abandoned you.

whenever you land on a player, you may beg for 1 gold, if they have it

you may pay 1 gold less per item bought at the village

you may heal up to your life total for free at the city and village , but you miss one turn

if a character lands on you, you may pay them 1 gold, and beg for your life to keep them from choosing to take life when they win in battle or psychic combat against you

maybey too much? let me know

Funny idea with a beggar - He begs his way to the crown of command partido_risa.gif

I think the begging should have a chance to fail. Maybe 50% chance for succes. (just a sugestion)

His craft is a bit high I think, but maybe you have thought of a reason for that ?

Is the free healing in the City and Village presenting pity for the beggar ?

Overall a good and funny concept.

Cheers

I think he should have to beg for everything, but let it be based on something rather than just a die roll. His Craft seems the logical choice, the higher it goes the better his ability to get sympathy, somehow... but he should only be able to beg for services, not goods (objects, followers).

He should also be allowed access to both the Chapel and Graveyard, immune to any alignment effects there. As an unfated misbegotten, perhaps any Powers of the Alignments might want to make him a servant. He could be allowed to pray in either place... but he can only "beg" for healing at the Chapel; he cannot beg for fate in the graveyard.

And I think cutting him off from Fate is a bad idea for the way 4ER works. All adventurers who can seek a Talisman would be fated one way or another. Have him start with 0 Fate if you wish, and then he has to gain the attention of the Powers the hard way... he can only gain and not replentish Fate.

And the paying one less gold thing should also be based on begging, or he's just a copy of the Merchant for that.

That's funny and what a coincidence.

I've just translated the beggar out of polish and made a 4ER card of it, two days ago.gui%C3%B1o.gif

It says: Strength 3, Craft 3, Lives 4, Fate 1. City, Neutral.

You start the game without gold.
~
Whenever you encounter another Character, instead of attacking, you can try something begging from him, roll 1 die, if you roll a 1 you may take 1 Gold or an Object.

~
Before you have to fight an enemy or character, you may roll a die, if you roll 1 or 2, you arousing pity in them and you can sneak out of the fight.

~

When you land on the Tavern, you gain 1 Gold.

That is pretty cool and do not seem to be overpowered either.

Here is the card:

This is my take on the beggar

I will add it to my list of characters :)

The Beggar sounds fun. I prefer overall the Beggar that Pace posted over Uvatha's version, though the Loiter ability is my favorite.

wow, definitely some very good ideas here. it would be very easy to make him too powerful he should have to roll a die for all his begging if you want him to be able to use it in multiple places.
