Variability of play throughs

I have two games going right now and in one my team has 4 trinkets found (solo game) and in the other, none! First team is on chapter 9, the other on chapter 10.

The game seems quite variable, but perhaps that's not always a good thing. I still find it hard to tell from flavour text which tokens might have something. I worry that having no trinkets will make the final chapters harder, since they do seem to come in handy (though they're not game-breaking).

On the plus side it seems very replayable. I like trying different characters and role combos, plus taking different choices in the branching pathways. I've now done two different branches and each one is interesting in its own way.
