Republic mini-swarm

By Roller of blanks, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Ashoka Tano+Delta 7B

2x Blue squadron protectors+concussion missiles and dedicated

Obi-wan+CLT

Total:199

The idea is to fly ashoka with the two blues, and use her ability to give a focus to one of the blues, use dedicated to spread fire and mitigate damage, and fly obi-wan on the flanks, getting bullseye and being generally evasive. If my opponent engages the swarm I'll break formation and fly them individually, and I'll use obi-wan to keep them focused. My turn zero plan involves big rocks and a dense asteroid field, with a deployment similar to vader+miniswarm.

I also have a few other ideas regarding alternative options to ashoka:

Jedi Knight + 7B and battle meditation.

•better alpha strike, since the torrents can both get double mods, but I have to spend an action for it and less utility for the midgame

•no bid, which is bad for obi-wan

Wolffe + the senate.

•More durable

•passive mods and more time on target

•I can flip him whenever I need to supercharge obi-wan.

•bigger bid

Some options instead of obi-wan

Mace with 7B

•no bid

•easier force recharge

•lower initiative

Lumi with 7B

•bigger bid

•less force

•lower initiative

•more defense

So, is the list good? Should I swap ashoka pr obi wan for one of the above ships, or something else entirely, like lumi?

I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Swap torrents for a named ARC

Yeah, Obi and Ahsoka like that are both phenomenal - but Torrents are not. Either an ARC or another Jedi would be better imo

Stupid question but what makes the Torrent so bad aside from the fact it isn't a Republic Headhunter?

It IS a Republic headhunter, for better or worse (though I personally enjoy it far more than Z-95s, because they look cooler, are tougher, and have white rolls)

which means it's basically only usable as a Golden Squadron Scrub without upgrades

for some reason, Republic generics take a WILD leap from I 2 to I 3+ talent (ffg scared of dedicated? WHY NOT PRICE UP DEDICATED!?) and then keep scaling up from there for the named pilots

Torrent named pilots have laughably situational abilities, which wouldn't be a problem if they weren't so strangely overpriced

(to emphasize, Gold Squadron Scrub without upgrade is good; that's it)

Debris Gambit Blue Squadron Protector

Might be a case of pricing the platform to mitigate this combo instead of issues with Dedicated (Instead of what they did with Juke Phantoms and upping Debris Gambit more like they did with Juke... 😠 ). 32 pts, so capped at 6+ what ever else upgrade wise you want to slot in (8 points left).

Their dial. But in all seriousness, the named pilots for the torrents are way overpriced for their worth. FFG should just get rid of "Tucker" as a torrent, too pricey. I run them but what else are you going to do except buy another Jedi & ARC? They might see a point decrease this summer, (I doubt it) but an academy pilot at 23 is more valuable than a torrent at 25, IMHO. Maybe once the Y-wing for republic comes out we may see more diversity in the republic inventory, but right now, most people are jedi/ARCs. BTW, I LOVE the sprites, and am warming to the ARCs...

Pretty sure Torrents are getting play, but yeah they're very locked into just being fodder

Their dial is a bit weird (mainly it's just slow; no 3 turn and the 3 banks are red) which is necessary to compensate for a very stellar statline and action bar relative to TIEs and Zs

So... currently they only do one thing. They do it well, but that's all they do. Theyre probably be more cost efficient than a generic Arc (but me no math good) so they're your typical anklebiter/swarm ship.

But Arcs and Jedi offer a greater wealth of options simply because they do more. Even the lumbering arc has a white 3-bank and an aux arc to GREATLY vary things up!

I personally use a Torrent and don't think I'll stop. This, however, is due to the fact that I can't get named arcs and a Jedi in one list with a tiny torrent rounding things out

So yeah, the Torrent has one job (other than looking nice) and it does it well. That is all it does, however, until we see some much needed point fixes for every other pilot

In theory, dedicated seems like a good idea on torrents.

If their main job is cannon fodder, then slap dedicated on them to keep your aces alive, and if they shoot at the strained ship, good! Your opponent is now spreading their fire!

Dedicated Torrents aren't bad but they're also not worth 32 points. With all the other costs involved in using Dedicated (positioning restriction + strain token to reroll a single green die, with no guarantee of a helpful result...) and the fact that you really need multiples of them to make an impact, they should really be more like 29-30. I ran a pair of Dedicated Torrents alongside CLT Anakin and Obi-wan, had a couple practice games where Dedicated proved useful, and then took them to store night where I proceeded to blank out on every single one of my Dedicated rerolls for the entire evening.

So I have a tourney this weekend and I am thinking along the lines of Jedi with regen are really scary cause they are so hard to hit anyway. If they can regen they just keep going and won't die! Thus with this build I am hoping the Goldie's get ignored until it is shown they can cause a cluster #$%*. Plus I would like to be ready for the swarms my group sometimes uses. Lastly, Ahsoka makes herself and her Master even more ready to regen as she can "Force" the coordination (in addition to helping make it a total cluster).
