Rebels 101 (not new to legion, new to rebel)

By ScummyRebel, in Army Building

This is probably going to be closer to a tactics discussion than a list building exercise, although that will come into it.

I am working on building my Rebels up as a secondary army, mostly because I got a deal on a bunch of them second hand and also because I like the idea of fielding both sides of an army in one game.

I had a thread in here before asking about list contents, and it was deemed a “good enough loaner” list.

The challenge is, I just tried to play Rebels for the first time and took the worst beating I’ve ever had. :) I know that I can’t play them the same as I do Empire, but it seems even trying to be mindful of that didn’t matter.

I have Luke, Leia, 3x Troopers, 3x ATRT, 1x Rebel commandos, and a t47.

So, two part question:

1. What things do I need more of? I am not thrilled with fleets so I’m kind of hoping to wait for Rebel vets for another 1-2 Corp expansions that way.

2. Any recommended tactics for completing missions like intercept the transmissions where I don’t have any real control over making objectives fit the terrain I want it to? Or for tactics of how to manage to pull the middle objective for key positions or supplies?

Well the t47 is likely your first lroblem with getting beat, it is notoriously pretty useless. If you dropped that and took either more troopers or special forces that would be a good start. I never take a list with less than 4 corps.

As for tactics, you really gotta play the terrain to your advantage, block LoS when you can, try and constantly use cover or dodge for the nimble bonus

Yea I think another unit or two of Core Troopers will likely help!

T-47 can be fun but it’s not very efficient/competitive.

Rebels usually want to run 9 to 11 activations.

As for tactics I’d also recommend the dodge action! Rebel Troopers really need those dodge tokens to survive. Dodge and shoot is a common action combo.

Leia is great for handing out dodge tokens! Activate her early in a round and she can give two troopers at range one dodge tokens. Nimble allows you to get more work out of those tokens.

Just for the variety, would it be worth waiting for the vets? Thinking I may be able to fit my 3x Troopers, commando squad, Leia, 2x RT, tauntaun and 2x veterans. That with some upgrades leaves 40 points - betting that will fit one of the emplacement troopers that comes in the box with the vets.

That should be 11 activations.

That’s sounds fun to me!

When do we expect the veterans?

It might still be worth it to have access to multiple cheap Z-6 squads but if you don’t mind waiting and aren’t trying to be super duper competitive your plan sounds good to me!
