Does Resistance Chewy get a shot when he is destroyed?

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

Just saw a game where this question came up.

It states:

After a friendly ship at range 0-3 is destroyed, before that ship is removed, you may perform an action. Then you may perform a bonus attack.

Since it says before that ship is removed you may perform an action and then bonus attack, they were arguing about it.

Now I'm curious too.

Thanks,

I’ve always interpreted as yes; it says friendly ship (not ANOTHER friendly ship) and range 0-3 (you are always at range 0 of yourself. So I think you do.

Ok. that's what I thought too. Just wondering has there ever been any rulings on this. I mean I almost never see Chewy, but today they had a Chewy only tournament, where everyone had to bring a chewy pilot.

I would assume it follows the same interaction that allows captain jostero to trigger off of his own deadmans switch.

Yes absolutely. There's been no rulings or FAQ because they're not needed the interaction is perfectly clear.

Nb it doesn't work if he's destroyed by fleeing the battlefield though, as nothing can be triggered in that instance except things specific to fleeing itself.

I don’t know whether or not Tallie is ‘chewy’, but I wouldn’t mind taking a nibble to find out... :o

(Sorry, couldn’t resist! ;) )

Correct! In fact, fleeing isn't even "destruction" in game terms anymore .

So if Chewy is killed in the combat phase 100% yes, he gets to shoot because ships aren't removed until the end if the initiative step. The problem is that if he gets removed during the activation phase, I'm not actually sure I.e. Loses last hp to hitting a rock or something. Nothing that I can see keeps chewie on the table after he's destroyed, so it becomes a weird timing thing. Granted, this is pretty situational and in most instances he's dying in the combat phase, so it doesn't matter.

Why do you have an issue with the phase?

Trigger happens (chewie loses last hp)

He is a friendly ship in range 0.

So he gets an action (prevented by stress only)

Then he gets a bonus attack (prevented by sitting on a rock)

The phase doesnt matter at all.

Or not prevented, if he made it past the rock before not-so-grateful death.

Anyways, Snap Shot is coming back, so we sure as sure can perform attacks in the activation phase.
