Does anyone have recommendations for making a way to connect a 3D printed model to a stand (white natural versatile and smooth fine detail from shapeways)? I was thinking a needle cut to a good length might work, but I'm not sure how to insert it (would heating the needle be ok?). Or possibly drill a hole, but I'm not sure if that could cause damage. I would probably want to do that by hand? Obviously it would have been easier to print a hole/peg. Any suggestions or thoughts?
Ways to add a stand to 3D printed models?
If you mean armada stands, somebody (mel?) sells separate key portions of the peg, for gluing onto ships.
If you want the small base pegs, or similar, I hear wire or qtips work, though I may be wrong on that.
That could be what I'm looking for. If not I'll check out the wire/qtip suggestion. Thanks.

I regularly have to fix the small Armada ships like Flotillas and CR90 pegs. I replace them with 2mm (or is it 3mm?) thick brass wire.
- Cut a small length of wire with heavy duty clippers and file both ends flat.
- Then use a file to flatten the side of one of the ends so it has a "D" cross section and fits snugly into an armada stand. Use trial and error to get the correct fit. If you find it wobbles a little then you can coat the end of the wire in Citadel 'Ard coat or Vallejo gloss varnish and let it dry before trying again to tighten the fit.
- Next drill the Armada model starting with a small drill bit. I use a hobbycraft electric drill and you have to be careful that you don't get a blob of semi molten Armada plastic surrounding the drill bit that then gets you a wider hole than you wanted. Drill once with a 1mm bit then again with a 2mm bit is safer.
- Superglue the non "D" section of the wire into the model leaving the other end sticking out the correct length to go into the stand. Ensure you have the flat part of the "D" facing the correct direction.
Brass wire is great, if you have a easy place to get it.
I will say that 12 gage copper wire is an exact match to the diameter of Armada pegs. It is also easy to cut and file, and available at any hardware store.
Thanks guys. I might end up needing to try the wire for one of them.
So, for all my conversions, I took the keyhole off of some armada ships, dumped some molding-silicone around it, yoinked it out the keyway after the silicone is cured, and poured in some urethane resin in the void left behind. Once the resin has cured, I have myself a keyhole. I tend to make about half a dozen at a go.
