New First Order Ship: A Suppositional Design Analysis

Because the turret is visible in some of the screenshots. Same shape and location as the one on the sf.

While not visible in the OP's selected image (bad one to choose for this assessment in my opinion) the SF painted "Interceptor' does have a dohiky on the bottom similar to the TIE/Sf's.

Here we go, found a better one. The "turret" is right under the cockpit. Admittedly barely visible in this image, but there.

Ah, well that is interesting. I still think most of what I said is accurate. I agree that there is something there but doesn't seem like it's necessarily the exact same thing. It doesn't seem like the same shape to me but I admit there's not a ton to look at there so it could be.

There is a better view in the preview reel itself that shows the piece more fully but I couldn't find a screen cap of it.

Would it be entirely unreasonable to suggest a 3 die primary and sf gunner capability at a minimum price point of like 75 base? As far as I'm concerned, those are the silencer's front guns and the sf's turret and I'd like a couple more 4 dice attack ships to mix things up.

Getting a snubfighter with a 4 die attack should not happen. The 1e phantom is proof. It's next to impossible to balance.

I feel like the lack of cloaking shenanigans would change that a bit

Isn't that the sf paint job as well? It looks like a Special Forces TIE Interceptor to me, but I wouldn't know what that means. It is also a Silencer with a different cockpit piece, but I didn't even realize that right away. It made me realize how much the cockpit affected my lack of attachment to the Silencer.

Considering we don't have a First Order TIE Interceptor in X-Wing yet, I'm not sure what a sf variant of it would be like. I'm certainly interested to find out though!

The rear radiator panels are also different than the Silencer's.

Vonreg’s TIE is quite different from this: much smaller and more rounded panels that don’t go backwards, more like the classic Interceptor crossed with a V1. Put that together with the Interceptor from the retail poster and this faction has four Interceptor options.

Making those distinct will be a massive pain.

Squint with a turret (SF silencer), squint (Silencer), A wing (The Resistance Interceptor), and... also A wing but with BR instead of boost (TIE/fo).

Yeah ship abilities will be weird to figure out.

The SF Silencer (or whatever it is in the trailer) is the only one with a turret as far as I can tell. There may be a rear arc on the retail poster interceptor based on some concept art from the art of TFA. Vonreg's TIE is probably the smallest (maybe?).

You can't just put Autothrusters on all of them. I could see Autothrusters on the Silencer and Vonreg's TIE as long as they're statted differently and have different upgrade slots and dials.

Vonreg's TIE clearly doesn't have Torpedoes, though there could be missiles in there. They could experiment with a white turnaround maneuver, a white linked roll-focus, or maybe even a 4 agility to set it apart, but those are all mostly unprecedented.

The other two are trickier. For the SF silencer it could be basically the RZ-2's ability except maybe white instead of red? That would make it a forward development of the Silencer, but probably way too strong. If the ship is exclusively flown by the Knights of Ren, they could be purple actions, allowing it to remain stress-free or to have less blues on the dial, which would be an interesting design space.

The cheap triangular interceptor in the poster might just have a 3/2 or 2/2 (or even 3/1?) front/back arc and otherwise the same stats as a TIE/fo. Tech and no sensors, no heavy weapons, but blue turns and maybe just a linked action or two without going full autothrusters. Probably the cheapest option of all of them.

The whole thing is so weird since they have one shuttle, two basic TIEs, and now 4 interceptors. There's a bomber in the Resistance Season 2 poster too, but that still leaves fully half of their ships as some form of TIE Interceptors. Weird.

I'd expect the sf silencer to get the rz2 ability and some blue turns. Maybe two speeds of blue turns, giving it blue 1 turns but no other 1s would be near unique and cool.

Have they as yet ever changed a 2.0 dial from the conversion kit in a released expansion?

What they're talking about isn't the current TIE/vn Silencer, but the Interceptor like fighter from the RoS trailer.

No, and this wouldn't either. The SF silencer would, in this context, be a different ship from the regular one.

Not having seen the movie yet, of course, I'd probably give it 2V 2Q, with the RZ2 ability, blue 1 turns, blue 2 turns, banks, straights, blue 3 and 4 straight, whire 3 bank and turn, 5 straight, and some red moves of some sort. Gunner tech and mod slots.

Vonreg's TIE have missiles, some kind of energy shell charge :

I expect this like the tie fighter : A regular version and a special force variant.

I'm just curious who it was that was asking for not one but two more TIE Interceptor variants. Don't get me wrong; interceptors are my favorite ship type. But four different types in a faction that only has three non-interceptor ships? Maybe the bomber can come sooner than expected.

Nah, just make FO the aces faction. Why not, they really don't seem to have massed TIEs as a thing the way the Empire do.

Except that really limits you to 2-4-ship builds. Maybe five if you're an excellent I4 flyer.

I decidedly if the opinion that this is a captured Resistance modded TIE silencer.

This scene is a training exercise and Poe or Snap are flying the thing. It’s just been edited in a way to make you think it Kylo attacking.

It is still a possibility, and for this to have a 4 die (if it does have a turret) it'll require it have a 3\/ 2Q(limited to front arc or rear arc) and gunner slot with the SF gunner (currently 10 points) in it. Pair that with a variation of the RZ-2's rotation mechanic (I'm thinking barrel roll or rotate instead of the boost or rotate that the RZ-2 has) and it will be okay for the game in the high 40's low 50's range for a base chassis without the gunner added.

If you up that by 10 points (before Gunner) I think you’re about right.

High 50's to low 60's? Maybe. Depends on the rest of the stat line.

If it can get 4 dice it definitely needs not to be able to have 4 of the cheapest generic with 4 dice each.

This keeps access to 4-die primaries above 65 points on a maneuverability ship.

Cheapest currently is the generic Upsilon at 56 and it can’t aim that arc worth anything.

And honestly, I'd be super dubious about 3 4 die ones and a 3 die one. 4 die primaries are a balance nightmare.
