Do any other upgrade cards provide the awesomely powerful You can equip “Dark Side” upgrades ability?

Was this an early design mechanic that did not get realised or can we expect to see this actually doing something in a future release?

"Dark Side" does not mean Force Upgrade so what does it do exactly??

Um yeah. Thats a force upgrade. So going with that logic I should be able to put Maul crew on a Scum ship or Squad including Ezra Bridger and then take Hate on that pilot provided they have an Elite Pilot slot.

No. They still need to have a force talent slot. Maul lets you ignore the Dark Side restriction, he doesn't stop it being a force talent upgrade.

Dark Side is essentially a faction deckbuilding restriction - based on the App it's a restriction to Imperial, First Order, Seperatist and Scum pilots - it's not anything to do with the upgrade type.

So - currently - the only people who benefit are Kanan Jarrus (VCX-100) or Ezra (attack shuttle), since they're the only Rebel Pilots who have a crew slot to equip Maul and have a force slot for Hate.

Note that Scum with force talents (Assaj Ventress is, I think, the only one?) can take dark side abilities anyway.

Imagine if Maul had instead said "you may equip Scum abilities" - it would let you take Fearless or R5-TK, but only if you had an elite slot or Astromech Slot respectively to put them in

got it. thanks for clearing this up. yes, asajj is the only force user scum currently has. she is pricey but understandably so. maul is 11pts so ur not likely to see him on something like jakku gunrunner. lol

No. More to the point, since his ability is more or less identical to Hate, which is currently the only Dark Side upgrade, there's relatively limited value in taking both.

That's not saying it's not worth taking both - it means that after you are attacked and take damage, you can recover two at once - but having both is probably diminishing returns.

He's mostly an upgrade card which gives you a force token - which is still not bad (Fifth Brother is the cheapest I can think of and is only two points less with a pretty flimsy ability), but you're still not going to strap him to something that cheap. He's not a bad pick for firepsray crew whether you ever use his recharge ability or not and without any possibility of equipping force talents.

Asajj can take Hate anyway. That clause applies only to Ezra and Kanan pilots currently.
