Death Star Destroyer Research Phase

What if Palp placed a DS Superlaser on the SSD? An experimental idea to give the SSD the highest firepower possible. With several different upgrades it can fire up to 9 rerollable reds, certain to maim any larges in that front arc and obliterate anything else.

The basic chassis:

DSD Prototype(0/285/400)
=====================
Star Dreadnought Assault Prototype (250 + 35: 285)

+ Quad Turbolaser Cannons (10)
+ Spinal Armament (9)
+ Ravager (4)

This allows 8 rerollable reds when spending the SSD's CF dial and token, and QTC is highly likely to proc in the midst of Krennic's rerolling, hence I take 9 as a given. This only applies to one shot ofc but you likely won't face 2 larges in the front and the normal 6/7reds can still break smaller stuff. It also gives alot of flexibility in controlling your firepower with regards to what you face, whether you need more accuracies(accs) or more damage. LS to still hit things that close in.

So the next step is actually making this viable to use on the board. One good thing is the commander slot is not yet filled. Jerrjerod and Thrawn seem like the best candidates here, the former to keep the front arc on target and the latter to keep up CF/nav commands while doing other things. This ties in well with filling out the list, which I think should be squadrons to help cover the SSD

Will definitely need lots of tweaking to get right, but I suspect the general playstyle would be to stop/slow-waltz in as much as possible. I suspect it will do better in sector fleet battles where there are more points and other units to cover the DSD. The assault prototype will still be the most suitable for this idea as it's the cheapest type(save points) that throws 5reds out the front without any upgrades

PS: For comparison, the next closest thing is an Ackbar Defiance EA HMC80 but the defiance die is better added as a blue to be spent on LS else lack of reroll at long range. There is something to be said about side arc vs front arc though.

PSS: This is the dream, one-shotting a liberty, like a DS. With this chassis, actually obliterating an LMC80 in one shot at long range is a very real(though slim) possibility

So to one-shot a lib, we need the maximum of 3accs and 6 double hits. Vet gunners and Jonus give alot of flexibility in when you want to get out those accs, so you can choose when you want to try for doubles. Vader officer because Krennic will obviously still fail to obtain the dream despite his rerolls. Wait, so that's 12 damage but the lib has 8hull 5shields? Well Jonus himself can bomb too!(yeah I know that doesn't really count as its not all from the Turbolaser shot, whatevs haha) Obviously it's difficult to attain this roll, but if the lib presents any hull zone other than the front to the SSD only 10 damage is needed so it will definitely say hello and byebye. Now for commanders what shall we put how about Thrawn/Piett to be able to concentrate fire and throw more squadrons at the same time. Granted it's alot of work just to one-shot a lib so I think the previous builds above with GT will do better overall

Not sure about mounting it on a ship but if Mel's miniatures were to produce a Death star i think your idea would work on it, imagine a Death star attack containing 12 red dice, and 6 blue or something along those lines, you could have your very own Death star battle

Cool beans, might be some nice house ruling. I have a DS popcorn tub that could be useful. I think a new square or round base would better reflect the DS as the SSD's base just seems too long a shape to try to reflect the DS in-game.

I remember seeing some other folks doing unofficial stat cards and ship tokens for the DS, with lotsa dice involved, but for me personally if the DS laser were truly fielded I think the mechanic should be an all or nothing thing e.g. you roll a die and if it shows hits/crits you remove target ship. :D I mean even a DS should be able to one-shot an enemy DS
