Double Turrets and Gunners

By Spartan_Dude, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hey guys and dolls,

When looking at gunner upgrades like Veteran Turret Gunner, Hotshot Gunner, Agile Gunner etc, the symbol they reference is that of a single turret. Does this mean they don't benefit ships with double turrets like the Decimator or Falcon?

Edit: Also can I fire using a double turret out of one arc and then use VTG to fire using the same double turret fire out of the opposite arc?

A double turret is just two single turrets that point in opposite directions, so all the turret gunner effects work just fine.

In fact this is the ONLY way you can use VTG on double turret ships.

Whereas a Y-Wing can have a Primary arc and turret arc, both facing front, and shoot the same ship twice with VTG, a YT can only use VTG by shooting out opposite sides, meaning it can be harder to concentrate fire. Still 2 attacks is nothing to complain about, but it can be harder to set up consistently, especially if the enemy is down to 1 ship.

there is a double turret ship with a front arc, the star fortress. it's not possible to set up a double attack against a single ship with VTG on a ship with just a double turret arc, unless you have a way to rotate the turret in between attacks and the ship you're shooting is in both one of your side arcs and your back or front arc. that's because when you rotate, you have to choose arcs that are not already chosen.

It is TECHNICALLY possible... if the enemy is a larger base size, and you can wiggle right up next to them, your opposing arcs can each catch one corner of the enemy ship. Looks cool in theory, it's just virtually impossible to actually pull off in a game.

that's 100% true. i feel stupid for assuming double turrets were always on large bases and didn't even consider epic ships. there is such a thing as k-wings, after all.

Wait what? The star fortress is REAL??? I thought it was just something I imagined in a nightmare.

(Thanks for the correction. I always forget the B-17 since the last time I saw one on the mat was about 2 days after they came out in 1.0.)

Don't underestimate them, They're an absolute beast in 2.0; and not just with bombs. Vennie, in particular, takes a ridiculous amount of killing and throws out very impressive amounts of primary weapons fire in the frontal arc.
