What to get?

By gmcc, in Star Wars: Legion

Not sure if there exist a topic like this , but what is the recommended units for each faction atm ?

I wanted to build a nice imperial team as well as a nice rebel one ( any of them , may include tanks or anti )

and what's better to get in future, bossk or boba ?

Welcome @gmcc, let’s say the best thing to buy is Everything 😂

Start with two core sets. Then buy the models you like best.

And dewbacks. Always the dewbacks.

yes i know maybe i will. . but slowly, that's why i asked :D

I assume you’re starting with a single core set. I would go for 2 snowtrooper squads, 2x scouts and 1x death troopers and veers, boba and specialists

NexuScout and RancorScout have yet to be filled.

I was considering KaaduScout because I'd like Naboo to be a thing, but I wasn't sure whether that would mean I'd be succumbing to a trend (or whether that matters).

OP, if in doubt, get each of the unique, and one or two of each generic unit for your chosen faction (plus the stuff from the core set) and you'll have a solid foundation to work from.

If you want to get into both factions I’d suggest starting with your choice of a second commander for each side, and then your choice of one or two squads for each side.

If you’re worried about competitive play relatively quickly, you’ll need at least one more Corp unit for each side than what the core comes with, so Fleet Troopers and Snowtroopers might be a good place to start. Also Snipers are particularly meta right now, so Scout Troopers and Rebel Commandos would also be good to look at.

Beyond that, honestly, it’s get what appeals to you, I think. I have yet to play any Legion outside of a 2-round demo, so I’m not worried about competitive level play yet. I started with Wookiees and Han, and Commandos and Specialists (And Veterans for my 3rd Corps) are probably next for me, as I’m looking for some flexibility in listbuilding. Big vehicles aren’t very meta, mostly, but also I’m not as interested in them on my budget. So.

TL;DR buy what you like.

if you want both armies, then two core sets are the best value. I would also consider getting the specialist packs as well.

Agreed, the specialist packs are great!

Any takers for AT-AT-Scout?

If you’re going to make both, start with two core sets and you favorite character for each side. Leia and Veers would let you do some old but still rather effective tournament lists with just core set stuff.

Then once that’s painted add any squads as you see fit. Honestly by the time you get all geared up the “best” units in the game may change relative to each other and new releases. So I would wait till you’ve got two core sets and two characters painted up then see what’s going on at that juncture.

We've become the scout namechange thread now, haven't we?

No one has said yet, but next up I want EwokScout@

I am new to the game so take this with a grain of salt, but by design troops are you best bet dollar for dollar. Any off the corps profiles seem good, but for the rebels the Rebel Troopers are super solid. Storm troopers and snow troopers both have advantages. This is why people recommend a second starter box. It gets you to 4 corps for each side and some support in the form of bikers and AT-RTs. It is a good buy for getting your ranks filled quick. It is not what I went with because I want variety, but for building both sides it is an incredibly powerful purchase.

Snow troopers and fleet troopers are pretty solid. Shore troopers are looking good and I assume it will be the same for their rebel counterparts. Any path to the minimum 3 corps is a pretty good one, but corps are still king.

Like others have said almost any unit (sans the snow speeder) is solid but scout trooper and rebel commando strike teams seem to be the next thing to get.

As for boba or boskk, I would first recommend one of the less expensive commanders, Veers or Krennic. Vader is a powerhouse, but he is more of a brick of pain than a commander. He eats a a full 1/4 of your points and has limited aid for your other troops. A kitted out vader and Boba Fett is nearly half your points. On the rebel side, Luke is much cheaper but why not get Leia? She is awesome.

My advice, summarized: 2nd starter box, scouts and rangers, second commander. If the second commander is Krennic, Death Troopers. After that, anything is good.

I'm not going to lie: the thought had crossed my mind earlier in the thread.

Yes, yes we have.

I'm torn between "Clone ParatrooperScout" and "ARC Trooper OperativeScout." Maybe "Republic GunshipScout"? If you're gonna dream, dream big?

If I'm dreaming big, then 'TheedScout' would work for me :)

'MandaloreScout' is up for grabs too

Personally, I'd advise for / against:

Imperial

Buy
+ StormTroopers (I've often used 4 Stormtroopers with DLTs, and they are great to run medic/repair droids as well)
+ Veers (he has a 4 red dice infinite range command card)
+ Scout Troopers (you can use a "Strike team" with just a spotter and sniper, snipers have infinite range, fits every list thanks to it's cheap price)
+ Death Troopers (expensive but they have great skills)
+ Krennic (not only does he allow you to bring 3 other special units on top of a death trooper squad, but he has very good command cardsone of which even allows a unit to attack twice in a single turn)

On the Fence
? AT ST (it looks so cool, and it hits like a hammer, but it's expensive. Although it's has expensive as Vader and probably has better chances of surviving)
? Boba Fett (in 5 or 6 games, Boba was a badass in 2 games. I'm still on the edge about him)

Don't Bother Right Away
- Snowtroopers (they're more expensive than storms, don't have a range 4 heavy but have a flamethrower, I personally never managed to use my flamethrower)
- eWeb (again, never managed to capitalize on the eWeb myself, very slow and hard to position)

Rebels (I play empire so I'll point out what I dislike playing against)

Buy
+ Leya (2 red dice attack to 3 units, with infinite range, even better than Veers IMO)
+ Commandos (these are the counter-part to imperial scouts, must haves)
+ Path Finders (range 4 configuration weapons that don't get exhausted)

The Invader League Season 3 Single Elimination lists may also be available to be viewed soon on the Invader League website; I found S2 to be a great resource for fun lists to try, especially as I don't get nearly enough opportunities to play
