Do you still enjoy your faction?

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

Hello and Happy Friday,

I was giving some thought to the fact I play First Order and Resistance, I don't think anything new is coming out until EP9 hit which is super ok with me (Exception the Resistance 2 ship thing) because it's my faction, no one else locally plays it and it still feels like a puzzle to solve for against everything else. My question this week is if you are only staying with 1 or 2 factions do you like what you picked and why?

Be excellent to each other.

Wave 3: Come for the awesome prequel ships, stay for OH **** AND **** GAS CLOUDS ARE INCREDIBLE FOR FO AND CONSTITUTE THEIR OWN EXPANSION WITH ENDLESS NUANCE, I JUST WON DICE WITH BLACKOUT MIDNIGHT TAVSON, HAD A BLAST WITH SOME QD MIDNIGHT BLACKOUT, AND HAVE MY BEST KYLO GAMEPLAY EVER WITH BROLENCERS!

-Edit, in English-

Bad variance kicks FO down harder than good variance lifts it. Such is expected from fancier and more precious versions of Empire ships that have 3 greens but only one defensive mod a turn. But with clouds, the abusable pattern analyzer slot, and positive interactions with obstacles, FO mains can now take their revenge on variance. Sure, it means the game has to be played better and variance can no longer bail you, but that heightens the importance of positioning in an awesome way. And with what you expect being what you typically get, it's ******* awesome to see A wings actually die because you're rolling 2-3 more reds than they are greens, so natties have to work harder to bail them.

Imperial all the way and loving it!

I don’t anticipate anything new until all old ships are out. But I’m okay with that. Still looking forward to getting large bases in general back into the game. They’re close.

The point changes, in a way, create new content every time. A new puzzle to solve with each new change. I flew nothing but Redline after he went up just for the fun of it.

I’m actually strangely pumped for the next point change just because it guarantees I’ll start seeing new ships across the table from me as well as changing my squads too.

I honestly couldn't tell you!

In 1.0 I was almost entirely Scum, occasionally dipping my toes into Rebels/Resistance, but now? Maybe its just that no one in my area is playing anything but Hyperspace, but I've been seated firmly in the Rebel camp for nearly the entirety of 2.0, save the first few months before Hyperspace really took off.

That said, I ended up taking a Scum list to the only Hyperspace Trial I could make this season and end up going 3-3 with it, and that's with no prior practice.

I keep waffling back & forth as it currently is, trying to put as much jank onto the table as I can.

Oof. Rebels is still there for me with my E-Wings and VCX, but **** if the CIS didn’t come out of nowhere and shock me with how fun Vulture swarming is.

I still intend to keep up with Republic expansions as much as I can afford, as well as the two factions I’ve mentioned. Hopefully once they [Republic] have a few more ship options I’ll find something I personally like a bit more. I also have Resistance... so we’ll see if the new transport and anything from Ep 9 end up drawing me back to them at all.

Its detachable...you can decapitate your own ship. Looks like I'm buying into Resistance now!

im staying with scum in 2.0. i have enough rebels to play almost any popular rebel list right now but i keep reworking various scum squads. similar to JB im finding new ideas are needed with the points rebalancing. scum got slapped specifically with boba, han gunner, advanced sensors for 4-LOM and Palob with title. when u look at what other aces cost in other factions its harder to get 4 scum ships worth the points in one list now. its a challenge and ur options are narrowed from a few months ago but im staying the course with scum. im hopeful the jumpmaster5000 will be good enough soon to give scum a tanky support ship with meaningful ordnance.

honestly, I don't know. I started playing rebels back in 1st edition because back then all we had was 2 factions. being invested into rebels it doesn't seem like something I enjoy anymore. I love that t-65s are ok now, but it feels like the rebels are missing something. just not quite sure what..

I played Rebels in 1.0 and 2.0. I'm taking a break from the faction for a bit to test out my new Republic toys and the other factions until the next tournament that catches my fancy :D

Imps. Haven’t played like 90 of the options.

Republic and seps are super fun tho.

I flied only Rebels for past 7 months... still fun to fly but now i need some new toys. such as astromech. They removed almost every astromechs of rebels and rest are just better(and also more costly) version of generic astros.

I enjoy my 7 factions still. But I must admit they do not get equal amounts of love. The poor FO gets the least attention, and at least for now Prequel factions are in the limelight.

actually thinking to leave empire for rebels...

they forgive you a lot more

Empire is my main faction (althought I play all of them except Separatists), and while I enjoy it in Extended, I'm not entirely sold on its Hyperspace selection. I was never into swarms or alpha strikes, but rather high tech ships with weird movement. I want to play Defenders, v1s, Phantoms, Gunboats and Lambdas, and for now those are out of reach in that format. The x1 (bar Vader) just doesn't do it for me, and the Reaper is no Lambda. I love the Striker, but mechanically it's too close to the Interceptor (or vice versa) when you have such a small selection of ships. The Fighter and Bomber are okay, reasonably solid and very thematic, but not all that interesting as main list elements.

So, while in Extended I can play my dreaded Inquisitors, in Hyperspace I'm usually going for something else. First Order is solid, an interesting challenge, I can usually bring 4-5 ships, moderately equipped, with interesting abilities. Republic looks promising, with Anakin being the most fun way to spend 80 points on a single ship this side of Rexler Brath. I'm thinking I need to give StarVipers another go in Hyperspace soon as well.

Playing scum exclusively. Although the announcement of the nantex made me think about going into cis...

I like playing scum. Tons of options. StarVipers + X hyperspace is my thing at the moment, feels really good to have those squirrely beasts around.

I'd like to see some change in the illicits. Don't use them at all. Comparing leia organa to contraband cybernetics makes me laugh...

Happy Friday!

I play a lot of Imperial, and that hasn't changed in 2e. Part of that was when getting into 2e I wanted to explore it through ships I knew to feel the major differences out. The other part is that I gave up on the competitive scene a good while back, and Extended Imperials are much more interesting than Hyperspace Imperials (though a chunk of that is TAPs lately, for me, and that will be hyperspace soon anyway).

I still haven't put Rebels on the table but I've played against them a fair bit. FO and Resistance I've played, but they haven't lit me up enough to play them regularly. Extended Scum has been interesting lately, if only because I like messing about with really weird combos, though I'm really not feeling most of the Scum crew, and that feels odd when I consider it was one of their best aspects in 1e. I miss old Boba crew.

I have yet to actually break out my prequel ships though. Stumbling into TAP Dancers, and how much fun they are, I gave up a bunch of chances to finally put them on the board. Next day, though, I swear (unless more TAPs...).

Vultures are a HECK of a lot of fun. Really really tempted to do 8 swarm. And maybe buy a 2nd Sith Infiltrator.

Generally, I think both of these lists are a bit "strong". Not enough info to say overpowered. At least Vultures seem to have weakness to exploit.

Still love Empire and Resistance, but opened my heart to Republic now, which I've played the last 5 games or so.

I used to fly only imperials, but defeat after defeat in 2.0 with the proton torpedoes, I decided to move to Rebels, it was fun and then the points update happen. I had to modify all of my list to make them work. After play 2 Hyperspace trial and one Open series, I decided to move back into Imps after test the Vulture droids.

I'm still having fun? Yes, but I didn't play any "Major" tournament with imperials yet.

Slightly fallen out of love with Rebels because of the dominant play style and lists at the moment. I don't really enjoy flying big blocks of beef.

Love Resistance and I've been experimenting with lots of variations of T70s and A-Wings.

I'd like to try Imperial but it's a really big deal to buy into a new faction. Bought some Republic but haven't really had a chance to use them yet.

Hum, I have been getting a little bored with x-wing and I think this was the feeling with most of the club but the new factions have really breathed some life into it and most of us now seem to be flying the GR. BUT even with those ships due to the limited number of ships most lists are seeming to be quite samey as we are now settling on what is good.

With regards to my other stuff I really don't enjoy the FO faction anymore. They are super boring and samey and well... just don't seem all that good or interesting.

Same here. Might join CIS in the future, but for now my money only allows me to dab into one faction (and, of course, it's the scum oolest only 😎 )

Yeah, kind of in the same boat.

When I was ogling the miniatures in the store window before a friend forced me into the game by buying me a core set, I was used to eye up the TIE Defender and TIE Interceptor. I was sure I'd play Empire. Once we started playing, though, I fell into Rebels. Initially just out of a desire to make the X-Wing itself work after it lost every single starter game we played, and eventually realising it was the home to so many of my favourite EU characters. I was always frustrated in 1e that the X-Wing itself was so poor, though.

2e was a dream come true in that regard, I was so happy at how viable the T-65 became, and how many list my long time favourite character Wedge is appearing in.

But after a few months... I don't know. I find it really hard to get excited about playing Rebels. The T-65 is great, but after including at least one in every list, there's only so long I can go. Rebel ships all feel solid, but lacking in exciting tricks. One or two games with Defenders and Interceptors gave me an entirely different experience.

I think part of my frustration comes from the A-Wing being ****. I tried desperately to get Intimidation Arvel to work, and either I'm just not good enough or he's too hamstrung by the A-Wing's awkward action order from the ability. The Moldy Crow getting nerfed was a huge blow. It was a really fun ship for two months, but now it's just too expensive for its mediocre HP and agility. Another part might come from 2e's tendency towards efficiency. Most rebel lists are about getting as many ships as possible, and sacrificing upgrades to do it. Which is fine, I guess, but I miss the sense of customisability.

But I think the biggest problem is the lack of things to look forward to. Not necessarily new ships, I'm well aware that Rebels as a faction were already scraping the bottom of the barrel for 'iconic', thematic ship choices when they got to the Auzituck. But the B-Wing re-release finally confirming 100% that re-releases wouldn't bring new pilots or upgrades after the first wave was a big blow.

There's a lot of content that's been dropped since 1e, and now it doesn't look like we're getting any of it back, or any replacements, for a long time. I need more named pilots, more unique astromechs, more gunners.

Step 1: don't 'have' a faction. Why lock yourself out from having as much as possible?

I have 6 of the 7 (sorry Republic, second kid is on the way). I’ve had a ton of fun recently with Separatists and expect to play them the most for the foreseeable future. For a limited ship pool they have a lot of fun options, I only see it improving with the variations from Hyena and Nantex additions, and I’ve always like the droid concept.

I haven’t touched Resistance or Scum since 2.0 really and I’m mostly flying FO if I’m not flying Seps.
