By Chudley, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I don’t normally do this, but I’d like to see what people think of this.

•Chancellor Palpatine (14)
•Count Dooku (9)
•DRK-1 Probe Droids (6)
Shield Upgrade (4)
Scimitar (4)
Hate (3)

Belbullab-22 Starfighter - •General Grievous - 69
•General Grievous - Ambitious Cyborg (47)

Its hyper aggressive while Grievous conducts the appropriate Coward’s Advance and attempt to flank while Maul takes hits.

Initially the open moves will be slow and possible across the base of the board to allow DRKs to be sent out early to allow for some early target locks on the key kill ship.

Thoughts?

Needed to add stuff.

I mean, you've pretty much locked yourself in. By going so very heavy into these two ships, there's no breathing space for anything else. Even if I say, "the Heavy Laser Cannon is unlikely to be used" (true given that at longer ranges you're probably using the torps), it's not as if going to a sixteen point bid is better. Really, unless you drop one of the pricier upgrades and the HLC you can't add in a cheap Vulture for blocking and range control, and it's not as if there's a better cannon for this kind of list. So... go you?

Drop HLC & Proton Torpedoes, add in DFS-311

Thanks Innese. I’ll give that a crack.

Here's another option that includes DFs-311 as well.

You don't really need the Scimitar title on Maul, it works better on Dooku pilot.

I removed HLC, Palpatine, and probe droids from Maul so you can fit K2-B4 on Grievous (or Maul if you prefer) and Grappling Struts and Discord missiles on DFS-311.

The idea is for you to plop DFS-311 on a rock early and launch your Discord missiles to close off some lanes and hopefully funnel the enemy to where you want them. 311 is also going to toss Calculate to his buddies if it looks like they're going to need that extra evade thanks to the Tac Droid.

K2-B4: While a friendly ship at range 0-3 defends, it may spend 1 calculate token. If it does, add 1 [evade] result unless the attacker chooses to gain 1 strain token. That's one extra evade result, not an evade token, so Maul can "Dooku" an evade and K2-B4 another evade for two guaranteed evades on any of the three as long as the range/token conditions are met.

Avoid stressing Grievous. The B-22 doesn't do well with stress (very limiting blue moves), especially against zippy opponents like Aethersprites, A-wings and the like. I haven't figured out how to use it effectively yet.

Good luck!

Impervium Plating (6)

Oh, and practice landing the Drone on a rock. Make sure you bring at least one rock that's big enough so DFS-311 can do his thing.

Thanks for the idea. I like this as well.

I think your Maul is way too heavy, your Grievous is great, provided he doesn't get nuked first. I've been testing this and think it has legs.

Run the droids with Maul and they usually get ignored which gives you a bunch of free shots /blocks. If they shoot the droids that's better as Maul is being left alone.

So. I’ll provide an update. I played the modifies list provided by Innese in a recent tournament. The ButterBot actually became far more useful than I expected, especially against jamming ships.

I came out 2/2 including a very narrow loss against a Fat Han/Wedge. He was a very good player and won the day with a 4/0. I won’t get into the ins and outs, but I was salty at the end. The guy I lost to indicated that this list was very good against that specific list.

The other 2 matches were won very convincingly, (these were against another Fat Han and Imperial Swarm lists).

My other loss was just terrible, terrible, terrible flying on my behalf. Just a debacle on my end. This includes flying my Maul off the table.

But overall, very fun.

Thanks for the replies and the help guys.

I tried the following recently and it worked well:

- Maul (Hate, Shield Upgrade, Scimitar)
- General Grievous (Outmaneuver, Impervium Plating, Soulless One)
- Skakoan Ace (Trick Shot, Impervium Plating)

@admat Can you give some description of how your set up and how you used your list? Maybe I'm truly a bad pilot, but I have a hard time flying the Belbullab. Once I stress, then it's a real pain to get back in the fight effectively.

Not many pointers as I've only played it twice so far (1 win/1 loss). I kept the two Belbullabs together and offered Maul as bait. It worked for one game but not for the other, and it's risky as you need Maul to be useful for as long as possible. The toughest part is triggering Outmaneuver on Grievous. It's awesome when it does, but not easy at initiative 4. In both games the Skakoan Ace was pretty much the MVP, since it was ignored. 🙂

I also have this variant that I have yet to try but should be fun:

- Maul (Hate, Scimitar)
- Grievous (Trick Shot, Soulless One)
- Skakoan Ace (Trick Shot)
- Separatist Drone (Grappling Struts)

In my experience, the Scimitar title isn't crucial for Maul builds as it it for Dooku. Do you find yourself using the cloak often?

True. I have yet to play Dooku but it seems so. I basically only started cloaked with Maul, decloaked when it seemed optimal, then never cloaked again afterwards.

If you could drop the Scimitar title and struts from your second list, you can fit in DFS-311 which I feel might be of more use than a virtually naked drone.

Trick Shot (2)
Impervium Plating (6)
Soulless One (10)

oops. looks like Impervium Plating is still there. Get rid of that and you can have your struts and 3 points extra for a hull upgrade on Maul. Now you can park 311 on a rock and toss calculates!
