Near the center of the dial face, nowhere close to the maneuvers, I put a big X Y B A in bright sharpie on the dial to easy tell apart each dial at a glance.
As long as it’s not obscuring or changing the dial information is this allowed?

If people can put stickers, change paint, etc. on the dials...I don't see why you can't.

That’s usually on the opposing side though. Are there any rules about modifications to the Dial face on the side that has the maneuvers. Alternatively it’s possible also to write the name of the ship along the side of the outer dial cardboard
Edited by Blail BlergPer the rules (check out page 5):
"• Players may mark their ship bases, tokens, markers, indicators, and their maneuver dials to indicate ownership or denote the color of maneuvers as long as the function of the component is not compromised. However, players should be careful not to mark their maneuver dials in any way that may indicate to their opponents what maneuvers they have selected."
So as long as the maneuvers are still visible and you can clearly mark which maneuver you're selecting, there's no problem.

thanks for the look up!
funny thing at first before the dial upgrade kit the dial type was printed not in the center hole but around it so you would be able to tell what dial it is. Now the dial type is printed on the center kit which is odd since there is also dial upgrade kits but it can make it easy to get a dial mixed up. I don't know who had the brilliant idea of moving the dial type to the center hole but there clearly are some unforeseen repercussions for that idea.

Exactly. Hence why I write which dial is which is really obvious bright ink.

The text labels are now below the center hole on the back of the dial face.
I write Numbers on mine corresponding to the "Tomb stone" number chits i put on my bases. That way i know which dial goes to which ship when i am flying swarms. I also use Number Target lock tokens corresponding to those same numbers so i know which ship has TL another with out having to add additional clutter to the table. I dont know why FFG didn't put NUMBERS with the pictures for the dial upgrade kits . Sure showing me a picture of a ship will work fine if that is your ONLY ship of that type you are flying!
First edition tomb stones fit into the ID window of the upgrade kits. I use those instead of the ship silhouettes to link the dial to the ship.
