Werner’s painting

By wernerkellens, in The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth

When not enjoying the adventures in Middle-Earth, I paint the miniatures. Normally I don’t paint miniatures from boardgames and I don’t like batch painting but for this game I made an exception. I started with the Goblin Scouts. Next one on the planning is Legolas.

Amazing job! If my miniatures look 1/2 as good as yours I would be happy.

This week I finished Legolas:

I finished the Ruffians, what do you think

Edited by wernerkellens

Those Goblin Scouts and Ruffians are the nicest painted minis from this line that I've seen, very well done.

I'm not that fond of Legolas, but that's more to do with the sculpt than the paint job. Bow and arrow looks pretty chunky, for instance. Face doesn't look particularly elven.

Thanks for the compliment.

What do you think of the colour scheme of Legolas?

Green and brown, looks good to me. I probably would have gone with lighter hair. What brand of paints are you using?

Different brands, mostly Vallejo Model for this one

That's the brand I've been using lately. Haven't felt the urge to paint the minis for this game though. I think of them more as game pieces, I guess.

These look fantastic!

As to painting board game minis, it's a slippery slope. Once you start doing so it gets hard to play something unpainted. I'm firmly stuck in the "paint all the things" mentality.

Sorastro has inspired me to take my very amateur hands to painting my lotr set and it's great to see other takes - @wernerkellens your work on Legolas is excellent, you must have a very steady hand! 😃

Thanks, just a lot of practice 😃

I really liked those Ruffians, especially the way you varied the colors so they would all look different. But still stuck to a theme by using just a few colors for their "uniform".

Thanks I’m glad you like theml

The next hero "Aragorn" is finished:

What do you think?

That is a badass paint job. Did you mix in some blue with the silver for the sword?

Thanks, no blue this time (I did it in the past with a GW model). Just black, grey and white.

Orc hunters are finished

The Orc Hunters definitely look more lively with some paint on them.

Excellent paint job as usual, although I feel by this point your skill level has been established enough that this doesn't need to be said.

😁 Thanks

I like the sculpts on the Orc Hunters. Those bows with the spikes on them look pretty vicious.
