sorceress' followers stealing ability

By air show, in Talisman Rules Questions

hy guys, I've a really stupid question but even if I've read other posts about it, I'm still not sure about the sorceress special ability to steal followers:

so, does the sorceress need to WIN a fight/psychic combat/beguile to obtain the follower, OR she needs only to move to another character space?

if so, a character can only evade her (with a spell) to protect his followers. I've probably played it wrong until now, 'cause i thought sourceress could steal followers only after a victory in battle/ps. combat OR with a successfully beguile...loooooser!

You don't need to fight another character to use the Sorcerer's ability. Just land on them, encounter them and take the follower. The same works for the Thief and Merchant.

The other play can always use an ability or spell to evade the Sorcerer and prevent her taking a follower. (As per p14 of the rulebook).

Mmmmh.... not really sure about this. The Sorceress' card reads "from a character you land on"; and we already know that "land on" means "encounter".

I think that you MUST fight OR beguile a character to steal a Follower.

If you look at the flow chart on the rear of the rulebook under the section "Encounter Character", it says you can either fight him (battle or psychic) or use a special ability. So a Sorcerer can either Beguile the character or take a follower as a special ability.

The follower ability has the same wording as the Thief's ability for stealing objects. So by your reasoning the Thief would have to attack the character in order to use his stealing ability. That doesn't really sound very thief like. :)

I see your point but I am not 100% convinced...

The Sorceress can choose to fight, or use one of her abilities !

She can choose for a psychic combat, beguile, or steal a follower.

Yeah, if you use a Special Ability, you need to encounter the Character on the space. If the Sorceress wants to take a Follower (or roll a die to Beguile a Character into giving her an Object) she needn't fight the Character. The Flow chart at the end of the Rulebook is pretty clear.

Of course, if you have a Special Ability that works in battle/psychic combat, you need to engage in such a combat to use the ability. There's no contradiction in this ruling so far.

I understood now, thank you!
