Best Generic Squad?

By DunaMoose, in Star Wars: Armada

"Best" is relative.

Best at attack, best at survive, best against ships, best against squadrons, best in mix?

For best in mix (or in general) i would say the YT2400 for Rebels. Just because of the rogue. Followed by the A-Wing, because of the great mix of anti ship, anti squadron and cost.

For imperials it is harder. There is no best in general. They are way to special in all kinds. And if you just ignore the rogue and speed, it would be:
Best for attack against squadrons: TIE Interceptor
Best for attack against ships: TIE Phantom with Sloane, Firespray without Sloane
Best survivable: TIE Bomber

My favorite for best in general would be TIE Defender and Decimator (depending if you need the rogue).

That's nutters, I just rolled it out on the dice app:
VT1: 3 hits (braced to 2) Neb loses a shield and takes 1 card)
VT2: 1hit neb takes a second card
VT3: 2 hits (braced to 1) neb takes a 3rd card
VT4: 2 hits (braced to 1) Neb takes a 4th card
VT5: 1 hit Neb takes its 5th card.

ISD I 2 black 2 red: 4 hits 2 crits...

I've had a few bad rolls with my VTs in actual use, but honestly... the results I've gotten have made it VERY worthwhile.

I really need to try the Pizza Delivery list because it was fun in concept, and it might work better in the modern meta. But, yeah, I was flabbergasted myself that I couldn't kill that Nebulon in the perfect, optimal position to do so. Maybe I haddn't taken the flight control officer and split my fire against another heavy? I can see that being my play, thinking the VTs would be enough to crunch in 1 shield and 5 hull. Nope...

When I run VTs I run 6 at a time. My results are actually very commonly the same as above. Out of six I usually do about 8-9 damage.

@ OP, Define best....

Personally the best is TIE/Lns... because they are cheep & can hold up most enemy sqns for a turn or two whilst I fire an ISD /VSD front arc in to their controlling ship 😛

Best overall

You're still not defining "best". :D

I would define the best squadron as the Mandalorian Gauntlet fighter. Obviously, its so good, that everyone has agreed to not use it.

Its the best in its field, so dont mock.

Raid is op.

I mean raid tokens are the only thing that can really effect Thrawn dails, even if they discard there dial to scrap the token so they can still resolve the Thrawn command you took them down to being able to use only one dail and not two.

Jack-of-all-trades-master-of-all fighters

I think the dividing line here is ones that require a carrier and ones that don't.

Certainly the likes of the TIE Defender and B-Wing are great if they get commanded to do their jobs during the Ship Phase.

But if "the best" also includes "The best all-arounder that doesn't need a carrier" then you're looking at Rogues. My votes would be the Firespray and YT-2400.
