I just feel-read Han - I get it.

I'm not sure that's the case actually. Although Han activates as if a squad command was spent, AFFM! only works when a friendly ship uses a squad command. Since there's no ship activating Han then AFFM! isn't going to go off. Basically AFFM! is affecting the ships when they activate squads, not the squads themselves.

I disagree.
”you may activate as if you were activated by a squadron command.”
Only ships can give squadron commands, so there is an assumed ship giving the assumed squadron command that Han’s ability uses.

I would agree with this.
AFFM! does indeed say "friendly ship", but this wording had to be used to avoid giving the bonus to enemy ships as well...
The "as if" in han's game text is the same as being activated by a friendly ship, so the speed bonus would apply.
But it can also be argued the other way, a clarification would be nice.

That was my original optimistic reading of it actually. I think I mostly settled on the other interpretation because I was using it in one of my lists and didn't want to be exploiting anything
But yeah, clarification would be nice to have. And if an opponent was using it against me I think my reaction would be "It's a grey area, not sure I agree, but we don't know so go for it", certainly isn't an interpretation I'm overly attached to!

Yes it’s far from crystal clear sadly. I’m in the coveted position of being final rules authority in our group so usually people just except my rulings, but I’d be unwilling to force the issue in a tournament setting.

I would not be entirely comfortable taking AFFM! + Han to a tourney without having a written ruling beforehand.

Agreed.
