Calculate and Perceptive Copilot

By player3953336, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So I am a fairly new player when it comes to x-wing, but I'm working on constructing a Separatist squad and one of my ships is the Sith Infiltrator with O-66 as pilot and, as he is a robot, he uses calculate as opposed to focus. One of the upgrades I was looking at using was Perceptive Copilot which says after you preform a [Focus] action, gain 1 focus token. So my question is, how does Calculate interact with Perceptive Copilot? Does Perceptive Copilot simply have no use or would it allow O-66 to gain two calculate tokens with one Calculate action?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Perceptive copilot only works if have focus as an action.

Hope that helps 👍🏼

Calculate and Focus are different things. Perceptive Co-Pilot does nothing for calculate. You have to be able to perform a Focus Action (not simply gaining a focus token), which 0-66 (normally) cannot do.

That said, a perceptive droid would be an awesome upgrade for the Separatists! Maybe too powerful for Vultures, though.

With IG-88 D and the various C-3POs in other factions doing something pretty similar, some sort of double-calculate crew may likely be released for Separatists in time.

I guess it could be a Networked Calculations source, but doesn't strike me as too potent.

Probably not, but any time my Vultures have to spend a calculate defensively that's one less ESC I get to shoot. So it largely depends on if such an upgrade would be a crew or tac relay or what, and cost could mitigate any Overpoweredness.

Kracken sort of serves that function. Takes a little set up and is limited to 3 droids, but it is there.

Right. So a crew that stacked with that could make the Vultures' first engagement nasty , Calculation-wise.

Supposing something like an eventual CIS Sheathipede with a double-calculate crew* on it, that'll probably cost like 40 points, so it might mean two fewer Vultures in the squad. Even if it helps keep Calculates on Droids, it doesn't necessarily mean more ESC.

But that isn't really a ship anyone would run, is it? Generic double-calc bot? More likely, an eventual CIS Sheathipede would also have some sort of useful ability, and carry the Tactical Relay for a Swarm...

* I can't really see there being a universal double-calc Tac Relay. Kraken sort of does that. Maybe one based on charges? Spend a charge (one of two recurring) to allow a friendly ship at some range (maybe 1-2 to make it feel different from Kraken) to gain a second token when it calculates. A one-per-squad card of one-per-turn extra calculates, essentially... maybe that's actually only 5 points. A weaker budget Kraken, but I could see it being OK with lower ship counts, like some sort of list which skips Vultures.

Crew seems highly likely to me. 4-6 points, grants a calc action, grants a second token when calculating, maybe is unique with some minor secondary feature.
