So I love class decks, the skills on the other hand seem really unbalanced. The level 1 and 2 skills seem far overpowered compared to the level 4 and 5 ones. Dagger expert and sneak attack especially come to mind. I was thinking of playing the skill lvls in reverse, has anyone else that plays with class decks found a good way to balance the skills?
Class Deck Skills
I haven't used the skill decks enough to notice any balancing issue. I stopped using them because they ended up adding a lot of time to each turn and really slowed down the game. My group didn't like that at all.
It's a shame too because I do like the concept.
Did you just buy one of each desk or did you pick up several so that you could mix and match and make your own custom decks?
I bought them all. We played them a bit but the balancing issue is just too much and now it seems that they are just an $80 waste of space. We actually didn't find they slowed the game down much as the two most unbalanced skills, dagger expert and sneak attack essentially DOUBLE your level. I too really liked the concept and wanted prehaps too much to hope they would work but that seems to be a pipe dream.
As someone very new to Runebound (the wife and I have the base game and couple of deck expansions), I'm curious about the class/skills variation. Can anyone point me to an online explanation (maybe a downloadable PDF manual)? I'd rather do that then ask someone to explain it all herein.
I think this is what you're looking for:

I think a lot of people forget that you can mix up these decks instead of just using them as they come. There are rules on what's allowed but you can take all 8 decks and pick and chose the cards you want (some conditions apply).
But then you very likely to have to have multiple copies of each deck... I only bought one of each to try them out. If my group was more patience I'm sure I'd get a chance to use them more often.
