Because the names of the fighter classes came before Star Wars fans developed Aurebesh as an alphabet... ANH predates Aurebesh by 10-15 years iirc. The names stayed what they originally were called due to the already established familiarity of them.

You beat me to it.

Just to add: the original Star Wars, before it was ANH, when Obi deactivates the tractor beams, the controls said “tractor beam”. After the 90’s rerelease the aurebesh was added in.

The in universe explanation for that is that the roman letters we see are the High Galactic alphabet as opposed to aurebesh.

I was just being ridiculous and cheeky (I know aurebesh came later, for the WEG rpg iirc), what has blown my mind is that there is, in fact, an in-universe explanation for the disconnect.

They do that, but we still have the f’ing disaster that is midichlorians.

Can’t argue with that.

I’drather have a more of The Ones and Mortis than force giving bugs.

Yup. As a callback to Leia's previous line in the movie where she also says "X-wing." Except that they both say "something," not "stuff."

I quite like the retconn they did, to say that midichlorians are just attracted to the force and are therefore more present on powerful force users.

Although not having them at all would be better ;)

People always forget what EP1 says. It is very clear about Midichlorians communicating the will of the Force, not being the Force.

They explain Force Sensitivity, not the Force.

Clear? I’s say midichlorians really muddied the waters up pretty good.

I won’t disagree with your last statement of “explain force sensitivity” though.

Anakin Skywalker: Master, sir, I heard Yoda talking about midi-chlorians. I've been wondering...what are midi-chlorians?
Qui-Gon Jinn: Midi-chlorians are a microcopic lifeform that reside within all living cells and communicates with the Force.
Anakin Skywalker: They live inside of me?
Qui-Gon Jinn: In your cells, yes. We are symbionts with them-
Anakin Skywalker: Symbionts?
Qui-Gon Jinn: Life forms living together for mutual advantage. Without the midi-chlorians, life could not exist, and we would have no knowledge of the Force. They continually speak to you, telling you the will of the Force. When you learn to quiet your mind, you will hear them speaking to you.
Anakin Skywalker: I don't understand.
Qui-Gon Jinn: With time and training, Annie, you will. You will.

To really make your head spin, why are they called “X-Wings”? Aurebesh has no “X,” and no letter that looks remotely like an X. Even the phoenetic equivalent looks like a delta (a triangle).

And since when has English the letter „Delta“ for all the delta-wing aircrafts?
