Bomb Damage Timing

By RedSquadBW, in X-Wing Rules Questions

What is the timing for bomb damage when two types of bombs detonate after activation?

The situation; Vinnie (P2) drops a proton bomb, Finch (P4) drops a seismic charge during system phase. I catch two enemy ships with both bombs after activation. Both ships have one shield left. Which order is damage dealt to the unlucky foes? Critical then regular per order dropped, or regular then critical per PS, or it's simultaneous so the controlling player chooses?

We couldn't find an answer quickly and it was a casual game so we just rolled for the order, but it would be nice to know for sure! Thanks in advance!

If there isnt a specific rule, or you cannot find a specific ruling on it, rule of thumb is to go by player order, as the purpose of player order is to break ties so you dont have to "roll for it".

RR pg 14

Quote

Player order is used as a tiebreaker for many game effects

So in this case, Player 1's detonate first, then player 2. If one player dropped multiple bombs that round, that player decides the order in which they detonate.

Both bombs have the same trigger (At the end of the Activation Phase), so you would use the ability queue. Since you control both bombs, you would choose the order in which the bombs detonated, and also which ship receives the critical damage from the proton bomb first.

just to add to the bomb damage questions -

The ship suffering damage - am i right in saying that the damage is automatic stopping the ship from making an evade roll?

yes of course. you only roll defence dice when you are attacked. bombs or mines detonating are not attacks.

thank you very much for clarifying :)

One other thing to note is technically, you choose which bomb to detonate before measuring the range so it would go something like this.

1) Choose bomb A to detonate.

2) Measure range for bomb A.

3) Apply bomb A's effects.

4) Remove bomb A.

5) Repeat steps 1-4 for each other eligible bomb.

Indeed. That goes double for the aforementioned seismic charge, because it "goes off" in three stages - first picking the seismic charge as the device to detonate, then picking the obstacle to affect (assuming you've landed close enough to one) then finding out if anyone is in range of that obstacle to suffer damage.

THEN choosing the order in which ships suffer the damage, if any effects are tied to it (Sabine).
